David & Goliath: The Brick Bible for Kids

Giant-sized Story
The break-out versions of the Brick Bible are Brendan Powell Smith’s best work. The David and Goliath story is already told in Smith’s epic masterpiece, The Brick Bible, but this 32-page telling is geared to the children’s market and features full-page panels with less graphic (albeit LEGO style) blood and guts. Still, good-and-evil stories like this one, work best in these larger action panels.Smith’s artistry is not only evident in the presentation, but in his use of perspective (the images are shot from different angles so the viewer’s eye is constantly active), topography (he builds texture and scale into each scene), color and materials (his use of LEGO pieces to create scenes is extraordinary). Finally, his storytelling text narrates each panel with the minimum amount of words that mirror the action on the page. It’s a perfect format for young readers, although both my teens and myself enjoyed reading this book, too. These books make excellent gifts for faith/fable readers and LEGO enthusiasts. An outstanding work.

Good story
Let me start off by saying that Mr. Smith is a great artist. The way that he makes these scenes is GREAT! As far as the story, it's pretty much on point, but it's sooooo graphic. I guess that's the point of building the scenes, but it's a bit too graphic for my taste. Although I'm sure my son will love it.

Fun Way to Read a Bible Story to the Kids
I bought this book for my 5 yr old son and 8yr old daughter. They've enjoyed reading the story and looking at the fun scenes made out of legos. The pictures are wonderful and the story is simply written for young kids. My daughter did think the part where David cut off Goliath's head and put it on a stick was a little gross. The pictures didn't show any blood or anything gruesome; it was just the idea of it.

Four Stars
This was a great book, although a bit more graphic than I expected with a kids story.

A favorite book in our home
Very cute book! A favorite book in our home. Tells the story well, and my kids were very impressed that David is shown carrying Goliath's head into the city. Much less gory in the Lego version!
