L1154 batteries are button cell 1.5 volt alkaline batteries.  L1154 is just one label for this series of batteries.  Other common names for this type of battery are LR44, LR1154, AG13, and 157.

Buying L1154 Batteries Online
This is the recommended way to buy these batteries.  They are widely available cheaply and you get much more value for the money spent.  One thing to pay attention to is where they ship from.  Many online bought batteries ship from China and you could be waiting weeks to receive them.  Make sure you buy from a US seller if you need the batteries sooner.

Buying L1154 Batteries Locally
Unfortunately, alkaline L1154 batteries are not easy to find locally.  Energizer and Duracell dominate the button battery market and does not sell the alkaline version of this battery in the US.  They only sell silver oxide versions of this battery.

Alkaline vs Silver Oxide
LR44 (alkaline) and SR44 (silver oxide) both indicate R44 which means it is a round battery with 11.4 mm diameter and a 5.2mm height.  The batteries are interchangeable so which one should you use?

Generally silver oxide batteries will provide you with a longer lasting life.  But due to the use of silver, the price of the battery is much higher compared with alkaline versions.  However, for the money spent on silver oxide batteries, you can usually get many alkaline cells so the total life is longer if you don't mind swapping batteries.

Disposal
Many button cell batteries contain a small amount of mercury in them to prevent gases from building up inside the battery.  Due to this, the batteries should be recycled with your local recycling center for hazardous material.  Some jewelers collect used silver oxide batteries for the silver and will gladly take them.

355 Battery
If you have a device that uses the uncommon 355 battery, the L1154 / 357 battery can be substituted with a battery adapter ring.  This adapter is a ring that fits around the battery to convert it to the correct size.
