Great corded planer that will cut through hardwood with ease
Really impressed with the power and ergonomics of this corded electric hand planer. I have used the planer on softwoods as well as hardwoods such as Oak, Iroko and Mahogany. It cuts through everything I have thrown at it with ease. The planer is fairly chunky but is quite comfortable to use. It will cut anywhere between 0.5mm and 2.5mm in a single pass. The results are nice and smooth. The machine was properly calibrated out of the box and no adjustment was to the blade was needed.Being able to change the chip ejection direction easily from the left to the right makes it easy to keep the vac hose out of the way of your work piece. The power cord is decent quality and has a decent length to it. The front shoe is a decent size which makes it easy to get the plane even as you run it in as you start your pass. The case is the older style and not the L-Box type but it is decent and has plenty of room for the power cord and jointing guide.Overall an excellent quite tool that is reasonably priced when compared to the slightly more expensive Makitan or Dewalt corded planers.

Fantastic plane
Arrives in a substantial box that contains the plane, fence, dust bag and a dust nozzle for a hoover. I use a Karcher vacuum which fits. This is an excellent plane. Certainly one of the best at this price. The other top plane at this price is the Makita but that doesn't come with any sort of chip bag or extraction. You might know that planers really do make a mess, so in my humble opinion that's a huge mistake. It's quiet, powerful and does it's job very well. I love the dual port design. It's really handy to be able to switch sides for the chip extraction. You really don't want to run a planer without extraction and there are times when the bag or hose needs to be on the opposite side. Not just because it might be in the way, but also it may balance the plane better.Calibration was off with my blade, it was about 1mm too low so set to zero it still made a substantial cut. This is annoying really, the last thing you want to do out of the box is calibrate a plane. At that point I lost the plane so I can't even tell you whether it is possible to calibrate the Bosch. Some planes are fixed so you better check that. It's useless if you can't calibrate the depth cut.I am sort of mixed on the single blade. No doubt its easier to replace just one blade rather than two, but the plane was also noticeably less smooth than a two blade plane. By that I don't mean the finish was, just the feel of the plane was not so good.Amazon often has sales of Bosch gear and I picked mine up at a fantastic price. Highly recommended. You will not be disappointed unless you ever use a plane set to zero to take off small bumps in the wood. Then you should look elsewhere.

Powerful, effortless planing
After years of using traditional hand planes, I opted for the powered version for tackling larger projects - particularly hardwoods. And what a difference it has made. The Bosch motor feels and sounds great (anybody with mechanical sensitivity knows a poor motor when they're using it). The dust collection system actually works (better with a vacuum attached) , and the cutting depth adjustment housed in the forward handle is a dream to use. It reduces labour time enormously. It has a four metre cord, so working from a power source is never a problem. The only drawback is a lack of speed control for the single-bladed drum, so care has to be taken to plane a lot slower than would normally be the case with a hand plane to avoid cut-outs (this is most likely on hardwoods). OEM replacement blades are pretty cheap (about £8 I think), so having a couple spares is never a problem. It's an absolute joy to use, and for those bigger projects it's a no-brainer if time is money.
