Can you use the SWAP Force characters?

Yes, all previous characters will work in the new game.

Do you have to use this portal with this or can you just get the game and use the portal from either of the earlier versions of game?

As others have said, you have the have the new portal, mainly because of the addition of the traps. There isn't a way to get just the game, anyway, unless you find it used.

Why did I pay $74.99 a few weeks ago and now it is $49.99?

It's not Amazon. It's how the market works. All games go down in price after a while. Amazon, right now, is selling it for $49.99 because they are matching another store's price. During the holiday season, Skylander games have always been known to be a hot item and competition among retailers drive the price down. For the last few years, they have been around the $35-$40 range for Black Friday. It's no different, this year. The reason is that the big retailers usually buy in bulk and work out a deal with the manufacturer to get a huge discount to offer for holiday sales.

I have Skylanders for the Wii, but I want to switch to Xbox one. If I buy the Xbox one starter pack, can I still use all my older Skylanders with it?

my answer does it say Wii on a single pack? no i have wii and xbox skylanders and they CAN jump systems AND still have all of there progress
