great model for the beginners . Parts fit right very little trimming and looks great when finished .

Challenging build
This kit is quite impressive, with lots of detail, but building it is quite challenging and I don't recommend it for beginners. The main problem is the instructions. They're confusing because they are poorly illustrated and have major gaps in the sequence of assembly. I had to spend considerable time studying what little was shown in the instructions and doing test fitting to figure out how certain parts were supposed to go together, and if I didn't have a detailed book about the TBM-3 that had photos of the cockpit and interior, I might still be trying how to figure it all out. Another disappointment is that while the kit comes with different types of bombs for the weapons bay, no parts for a standard torpedo are included despite that the Avenger was a torpedo bomber. I was able to modify the armaments into depth bombs and a small homing torpedo and painted the plane in the Atlantic ASW scheme instead of the Bunker Hill/Essex livery that the kit depicts. If you're willing to put in the time and effort, this kit is worth it, but if you're looking for a quick, easy build, this is not a kit to start with.

Lacking detail

Accuracy of model to the actual aircraft.
It isn't a good representation of a TBF-1 Avenger. I was not satisfied with my purchase.

Major firmament issues
Cockpit and top turret wouldn't fit right. They took lots of effort and filler. Wings wouldn't stay in place even after sanding and dry fitting. Finished model was too embarrassing to display and it literally went into the garbage can. Very disappointing considering many hours of work went into try to make it "acceptable" for my display shelf. As an moderately experienced model builder I would only recommend this product to an expert builder with a ton of patience. I will never buy another Academy model and stick to Hasagawa or Airfix instead.
