Outstanding Book with Very Useful Critical Feedback
This book is a real eye opener. The writer does an excellent job in explaining the evolution of the Islamic Finance industry through his own personal experience. There is important feedback here for all Islamic Banks and financial institutions on how to reform and not reverse-engineering conventional banks' products and services through complicated contracts just to make them Shariah-compliant.This critical review is crucial for the young industry to improve further so it can offer real financial solutions that are ethical, fair, sustainable and effective.A highly recommended book also for anyone interested in ethical finance for a better world for all.

A Weapon for both the Cynics and the Idealists
An excellent book which is part overview of history of Islamic Finance, part author's narration of his personal experiences and part author's own inner monologue on the future direction of Islamic Finance. More books like this are needed. Most of the books on Islamic Finance are from academics that deal with the theory of Islamic Finance rather than its practice with real-life examples of structures employed by Islamic Financial Institutions (IFI's) and Islamic windows of conventional finance houses. More beginner friendly than I would have wanted, which is understandable since the book is mass-marketed to wider audience. I would like to see a more technical book on this subject from a practitioner of Islamic Finance.

Who would have thought that a book on Islamic banking could be a page-turner
The success of this book is that the author makes this analysis of the history and development of Islamic banking into a series of stories, complete with larger than life characters. The whole is wrapped in a greater narrative which is both a personal journey and a history of a nascent industry. It is thoughtful and reflective. A genuine desire to do things right and make a difference comes up against the realities of the modern world. Don't worry if you can't get your head around some of the intricacies of complex financial instruments, you can enjoy the journey nonetheless, and end up understanding a lot more than when you started.
