Q: Does this come with any type of applicator? If not what would you recommend?

No, it does not come with an applicator. I had an old eye dropper bottle, and transferred some of the liquid to that bottle. When I use it, I just add a drop when necessary.

Q: Is this the proper flux to solder pinholes in stainless steel?

This is primarily electrical soldering flux. If you are soldering stainless steel (not commonly used in electronics) another flux with a higher temperature range is likely more suitable. Fluxes have an activation temperature at which they begin to remove oxides, but as temperature rises, they also have a temperature at which they themselves will oxidize. The key is to select a flux that can activate and remove oxides on the base material at a temperature below its own oxidation range. A brazing flux is likely more appropriate for stainless 300-400 series alloys.

Q: How long can this product be stored before it goes bad, and what is the proper way to store it?

I withdraw only small quantities using a dropper into nail polish bottles and keep the stock bottle sealed in a cool place. I have been using this product for about 18 months without any noticeable deterioration, like the day it arrived. I think the clue they give, 'shelf life 2 years unopened' gives a clue the problem is evaporation tells me that my strategy would help prolong the shelf life. This product gets really sticky as it dries and is a fantastic flux, which I like since it holds SMD in place but is a pain when moving small components and they stick to the tweezer.

Q: Does heating this help apply it?

It is intended to be used with solder to help the metal flow on the solder point. It is also used to penetrate deep into stranded wires for a sturdy solder joint. Put a dribble on the surface of where you will be soldering, and the heat from the iron will make it flow. No need to preheat the flux.
