has become illuminated scripture in my arsenal of artistic ideas
this book continuously inspires me. but even though there are blank spaces intended for my own doodles, I cannot bring myself to disgrace the blank pages of this perfect book. I want all of the series. Julia is a fantastic artist.UPDATE: April, 2017I am still using this regularly in my studio as a top reference material and for whimsical inspiration for my animal paintings of all sorts. It also is helping my nearly 9 year old child with his drawing and tracing. As originally stated in my first review, Even though there are blank places for you to draw in this precious parchment, doing so would be to scorch that which has become illuminated scripture in my arsenal of artistic ideas. And that just ain't right.

I love these books
I love these books. They are really fun and help motivate me to draw when I don't feel like drawing something difficult. Love it. People complain that there is no step by step instructions but that 's what I like about it. They're such simple drawings that you don't need the step by step. Some are a little tougher than others, but most are easy. I really like it.

Good inspiration
As an artist myself, I didn't think I needed this book, I can draw very well myself. Amazon kept dangling this in front of me and I finally decided to check a copy out from the Library to see it before committing to buy a copy. What I like about it is not really the illustrations themselves, many are too 'cutesy' or simplistic for my taste, but the way seeing what the author drew made me 'think outside of the box'. When I draw, I do simplify objects to make them suitable for quilting and embroidery but I've been locked into an attempt to make things too realistic. The drawings the author/artist made for this book exemplifies taking a complex object and creating a caricature (in a sense) of it. Not a style of drawing I had explored much, but seeing these illustrations has opened some windows in my mind and I found myself sketching subjects in a way that was rare for me to do previously. Be warned, this is not a step by step 'how to draw' manual like some art books are; this is more a sort of 'gallery' of examples by subject (all of the ones in this book are animals, she has others that focus on flowers or trees...). There are 20 illustrations for each animal, and each drawing is refreshingly different from the others. I found them very inspirational to give me a different perspective on drawing and simplification.

Learn to draw
Nice learn to draw book. I’m copying every animal because it’s good eye hand coordination. Lots of easy drawings.

It’s cute but no instructions
I like the doodles in this book, but I was expecting more instructions of drawing. It’s really just a bunch of pictures and only like two pages of cats. Most the book is other stuff.

Love this book!
I love this book! It doesn't have the step-by-step directions, but most of the drawings are straight forward enough that the steps are not needed. This is also a great book for tracing! If you are looking for step-by-step directions, check out Illustration School: Let's Draw Cute Animals (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/159253645X/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_4), I have that book as well and love!

Really nice book for sketching animals
I bought this book because of our recently adopted kittens. My granddaughter and I love to color and draw and I thought it would be helpful to have some easy images to work from. I can recommend this book if you want to encourage your creative side.
