Read this book 5 years ago, has made a huge difference in my life
I read this book about 5 years ago when I was at a low point in my life. I was commuting back and forth to help my mom who had a stroke, I was busy caring for my 2 sons who had regular weekly dr. visits and homeschooling 1 son. My health suffered, I was depressed and empty. I felt I had to do it all yet knew I couldn't. I rarely took time for myself and when I did I felt guilty because my family was struggling. Interestingly, a lot of my friends would also feel guilty when they took time away and found I rarely got together with them unless the kids were with us. I craved to have 'me' time. I came across a quote on day that changed my life, "You cannot give what you do not have". At that moment I realized I needed to fill myself, even if with small pockets of 'me' time, just enough to give me the stamina and energy to fulfill my responsibilities. I read this book and it didn't 'fix' everything, but it raised my awareness of how the more I filled myself, it provided me full to fill others. I started with 5 minutes a day and honored myself by doing something nice for me. Then I expanded it occasionally with more time, then it led to a day away. And today, I am intentional about taking 'me' time and never feel guilty about it. In fact, for me it's like oxygen, and without it I feel empty and quickly drained. My family has said how much more pleasant and energetic I am. So even though I'm writing this review a few years late ;o) , I gladly write this and I often recommend this book to other moms. Thank you Dr. Spencer for writing this and making a difference in my family.

A must read if you are a parent
The book is a must read if you are a mother or father or single parent, in my opinion. It may also be useful to educators and people that work with kids. This book gives concrete approaches that are easy to follow and implement & it's a quick 2 hour read; unless (like me) you like to sit with a concept before continue reading. I know this is a book I will need to revisit every few months or years as each time you read it, you'll garner new insights.

This is the second book I bought
I sent it to a friend because this book was instrumental in helping me to deal with my teenagers. It's about reacting according to your goals instead of reacting according to your emotions. It's about focusing on the positive instead of constantly focusing on the negative. Because of this book, I found a whole new way of communication. I would give my daughter 2 minutes of uninterrupted time to express or point of view then she would give me the same courtesy. Now (she's 28) she looks back and says that little change in our communication saved our relationship! The book is well worth opening your eyes to see just how negative we parents look to our kids. No wonder they learn to tune us out.

4 most important books ever: The bible, Financial Peace, Sacred Marriage, One Minute Parent.
I stumbled the father version when my children were eight and five. They are now in their 30s and exceptionally healthy emotionally. I give the most credit to my wife but The One Minute Father, drastically changed how I parented – for the better. For years, I have been giving them as a baby gift to new parents and to my clients to pass along upon the birth of a grandchild.I THINK THIS BOOK SHOULD BE REQUIRED READING BEFORE BEING ALLOWED TO TAKE A BABY HOME FROM THE HOSPITAL.

excellent! Its no a telling you how to raise ...
excellent ! Its no a telling you how to raise your children. But more than that is about how to understand then from they own needs . I feel one minute is enough to show love , disappoint or kind . The goal is to be happy not to hold on feelings . A really good reading!

The "One Minute" series...best book (s) builds foundations.
I started in the 80's with One minute Manager and have read and given as gifts One Minute Father and Mother. All the books are common sense applicable and adaptable to every day living.

but I really feel like I could have read this much quicker and easier ...
Its a short book, but I really feel like I could have read this much quicker and easier if it was just written normally and not drawn out as some fancy storyline to try to get you to believe the hype and buy into the ideology. I got bored with it very easily and I really enjoy reading novels. I feel like it was just too wordy and could have been shortened into a very, very shorter story.

Formula
Johnson uses a basic formula to his books then fine tunes the same message to different audiences. That said I love the book Despite the predictablility the message is worth the journey. Especially The dual message of we and I goals. The objective being to create a win win position for family members.
