Beautiful modern interpretation of classic tales from around the world.
I love her use of prose in her writing. Bold pulls you into the world of the characters and I felt like a spectator watching these characters love stories unfold on each page I turned. I have to admit I stopped reading the whole of the book to re-read my favourite stories. Would definitely recommend it.

Delightful!
I’m a big lover of mythologies from all around the world, so the synopsis of this book sold me. Little did I know that the book was worth much more than that 100-word description.Bolu centres women in all her tales—retold and original—and eliminates the streaks of misogyny, misplaced morality and general creepiness that line most folktales. She covers love from many angles and each story strikes a chord in your heart. Anyone who’s ever loved someone will find great joy in reading these stories. The life in these tales will light up your heart (and your body 😉).I was familiar with 9/10 retold myths in this book; each story in this collection brought something sweet and refreshing to the original and firmly set these tales in 2020.I don’t know what you’re waiting for. Buy this book—one for you, and many for all the people you hope can learn to love and be loved wholesomely.

Loosely based on mythology and folk tales
Love in ColourBy Bolu BabalolaA short story collection about love based on characters from different parts of Africa. Ten loosely based on folktales and myths and three new tales including one based on the author’s parents own love story.I really enjoyed reading this book and love the fact that the love stories were not too sexualised, each story dealt with true heart felt love, not just lust. The female characters were powerful and beautiful women who still welcomed love into their lives.I loved reading Alagomeji knowing that it was the story of Bolu Babalola’s parents and because I also met the love of my life in Yaba, Lagos.Yaa was my favourite story and I liked the writing stlye all through this collection.

Love in colour
I have had it since February. It is about a young lady who is an olympic swimmer. Who trains hard. She's in love with a young man who cheats on her with her friend at a party. That is as far as I have read.

Just wow! Brilliantly crafted and well written and
Every story is brilliantly put together… enough detail to set the scene and give do much depth… exciting and a reminder of how wonderful real love is, however it looks or feels to each of us…

Fantastic Read
I just feel so good having read this book. So well-written, and the characters are just <chef's kiss>. I would gladly hop on reading a full novel based on any of these short stories if that is what Babalola ever chooses to do. As it is, these stories have continued on in my head just fine, and that is fine as well.

Love is universal
There is so much going on in each of these stories! It should feel disjointed considering it's a collection of short stories in which the only common theme is love, but they flow so easily from one to the other. It's easy to pick back up if you've had to set it down for some reason and sucks you right back in. Sometimes the love in the stories is fierce and bold, others it's fragile and filled with longing. Such a lovely book from start to finish.I really enjoyed Babalola's reimaginings of folktales, myths, and legends from around the world, especially because she specifically rewrote them to give the women in them more agency and control. There were a couple I'd never heard before and it was fun to learn more about these and the cultures they come from by doing deeper dives. I think my fave is the very last short story. 😘 The book may be finished but that story certainly isn't.
