Good Stuff
I think that Polar brand canned fish is the best in the class. My only criticism is the Herring in Mustard Sauce. The only way I can eat this is to allow the mustard sauce to bleed off after opening the can partly and propping the can upright to allow as much of the sauce to drain away. I then use a tool to scrape more thick sauce afterwards. Once I've removed as much of the mustard sauce, the contents are edible, but it's close. I have 30 cans to go, which will take me many months. In my experience, Polar has the best canned fish. I wish I had never decided to buy this particular stuff.

Not whole sardines, nice sauce
I was excited to have these from a reputable company, but they weren't whole brislings. Fragments of deen with decent flavor in the sauce, but not what I had my heart set on.

High quality, way too smoky for me.
The fish were nicely packed, and I know people do like this level of smkiness, but it was too much for me. It seemed like high quality.

Bad Packing
I really like the taste of these sardines. However the packers cheated on some of the cans. They placed 4 sardines crosswise on the bottom layer, then placed a full layer on top. So there are fewer sardines than other brands. I had not seen this before when I purchased Polar sardines. I suppose it is their version of shrink-flation.

Smoked sardines in a rich tomato sauce.
The portion is large- makes for a good meal by itself if you are one of those I-eat-A-can-of-fish-for-lunch people. Otherwise it's two cans of 'deens should you pair it with crackers. People are referring to the sauce as sweet and ketchup-y. That's pretty rude, but not untrue. The sauce is spiced, but not hot. It's good cooked TOMATO sauce. Best eaten warm- I broiled the can (label and lid removed) in my air fryer for a few mins. 🥰

I Do Like These Little Fishies!
I love the smoky flavor of these little fishies. I do, however, have to pinch the tails off. Not a fan of fins in the mouth. The smokiness can get a little much if you are really eating a bunch of these but what is especially great is that they pair well with less tasty sardine brands which serves to both mute the smokiness and elevate the tastiness of any yuckier cans of fish you have. In my search for a great can of sardines, I admit to buying several somewhat icky brands but these smoked Polar ones really go the distance! Buy with confidence!
