Is this suitable for running shoes?

If you would use running shoes for a regular bike pedal, then yes this is suitable for you. Plus you get the advantage of being able to use "clipless" shoes when you want, but take note that these use a Crank Brothers cleats - SPD cleats don't work with this pedal.

The only hardware required are the cleats that get attached to your bicycle shoes. Crankbrothers pedals use a specific cleat, I don't think SPD cleats will work. Yes, cleats are included with the pedals.
