A Very Good Value!
My grandson absolutely loves the Junior Scientists books! He had two of them and I purchased three more of them for Christmas. He was so excited when he opened this present! When I paged through the books, I could see why he loves them.! The quality of these books is quite impressive! The brightly colored pictures just pop off the page! The descriptions and information for each animal and creature is so informative! I do want to say that I would change the age level to 10. My 9 soon to be 10 year old grandson is a very bright child and thoroughly enjoys these books!

No evolution and old earth mentioned
There is nothing mentioned about evolution or old earth theory which we like since God created the Earth and all things. Anyways that’s important to us, however we do have many books with the other because it’s so difficult to find any science based book without “millions of years ago.” The science section of our home library would be very thin. :) This book has some action pages that have neat activities ie to mimic ocean current in bath tub and to mimic how whale sounds under water. This book stimulates our children to want to learn more about the ocean life presented in this book. It’s just a snap shot of each one and gives list for further reading in the back. Pretty nice pictures too. Overall I would recommend! I got it for our five year olds Octonauts bday. Their 9 yr old sister loves it too.

Good book for little kids who like animals
Ocean Animals for Kids is formatted with a little bit of general information at the beginning of each chapter, then several full page profiles of specific animals to fill out the chapter. Chapters are: The Ocean, Marine Mammals and Seabirds, Fish, Marine Reptiles, and Marine Invertebrates. Each animal profile has a picture of the animal, a few paragraphs with information about that animal, and basic statistics like size, weight, and what parts of the world it lives in. As you can tell by the titles of the chapters, the book has a wide variety of kinds of animals. It's light on fish, then has sea snakes, sea turtles, seals, walruses, polar bear, etc. So, evenly spread across animal kingdoms. This may appeal to children because they see unusual animals like the sea snakes, and animals they will probably recognize, like seals and polar bears. The content was really good for young kids. The recommended age is listed as from 5 to 9 years old. I think it can go a little younger. For younger ages, someone has to read it to the child, so it's age appropriate for the kids being interested, but the language is more complicated and a very young child couldn't be expected to read this to themselves. It's also heavy on written content with only a single photograph of each animal, so really needs to be read to be interesting. I would say for reading independently, maybe 3 grade and older could read at this level, so maybe closer to the top of the recommended age range.Since it's a book that an adult will read to kids (probably, given the target audience is young, and the language is for fluent readers), part of what might make it a good book or not is if it's good for adults who might be reading it to a child. I think it's OK for that. The paragraphs about animals have interesting facts, and seem ok, and the information about size and weight is nice, because I can find things that are the same size as the animal and tell my kids that it's the same size as this or that. This Ocean Animals for Kids book was a huge hit for my 3 year old and 5 year old. The 5 year old likes to watch nature shows on the computer, and the 3 year old sometimes joins. So, they know a lot about animals from that. They have enjoyed finding an animal profile, telling me about the animal, and then me reading to them about the animal. This book does have a major layout problem. The photos of the animals tend to look washed out or low contrast. The print quality is fine, and it's a fine print job. I think that what happened is that they did the layouts and editing all by computer, and picked photos that looked better on a screen with back lighting but do not look so great printed out. Many of the pictures have a lot of dark in them, have dark backgrounds, and then have a little bit of color or light in the foreground. On a computer screen, that pops, but printed out, the big dark backgrounds and areas don't have enough contrast, and the pictures tend to look like dark blue blurs. It's not that bad, but it's definitely not great.Overall, if a child is interested in animals, I think they will like this book, with the constraint that an adult will have to read it to them, because it's written to appeal to young kids, but the language is more complex and where I would expect a child to be at when they are maybe 7 or 8 years old (so toward the older range of who the book is written for).

Great educational book!!!
This is a wonderful book for kids, it has realistic pictures and some easy DIY activities that are easy to follow! I plan on pairing this book with a fun sensory activity to match. I got my copy of this book for free, but plan on purchasing a few extra copies to give as gifts. This book is worth having in your collection for yourself and/or for kids.

Perfect for the curious kids
My nephew has aspirations to one day be a scuba diver like I am. He’s still a bit too young to join me in the sea but I’m giving him a head start in the form of the right reading material. This book was a good way to get him even more excited and teach him so much more about the various habitats and behaviors of various marine animals. I may buy another copy to give as a gift.

Well composed and beautiful to look at.
The information is so cleanly organized with beautiful complimentary imagery. I often find children's informational books overly busy and cluttered. Not the case for this one which was such a nice surprise. I even ordered a number of copies to gift to the children/ families at my child's ocean themed birthday party.
