Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 (2nd Gen) USB Audio Interface with Pro Tools | First, 18i20-8 Mic Pres (AMS-SCARLETT-18I20-2ND-GE)

I read hundreds of reviews of countless different audio interfaces. Thankfully I chose this wonderful unit. I have had this for more than 8 years now, and is still going strong with no issues! I use this interface with Logic Pro on Mac. Original set up and synchronizing settings with the mac was a tiny bit of a challenge, but nothing a few phone calls couldn’t fix. Once it’s all set, you are good to go! I love how easy it is to work with this interface! I mainly have 2 keyboards running stereo ( 4 cables ), a microphone recording saxophone. For outputs i have 3 sets of headphones, 2 speaker monitors, and normal Logitech speaker system with an adapter to plug into the interface! This interface runs all of that with no latency, and excellent sound quality! This is a very powerful unit, and will handle most music studio setups, whether you’re a beginner or looking to add to your collection! This is also perfect size for most studio desks, this interface can be mounted too! This is definitely best bang for the buck! Im hoping to get another 8+ years out of this! Once this one is done, I will buy another.

This interface is great with really great sounding mic pre amp and easy to work with. Not so impressed with the Pro Tools First, ok to learn DAW but limited upload to cloud and a hand full of other small issues for a person to be able to perfect. Focusrite however is first class, even had tech call me when faced with a simple issue and that is well beyond average. Techs usually only answer calls,not return a call.

After a few months, I have nothing but good things to say about my 18i20 thus far. Even though the control software wasn't immediately intuitive and some programs needed some finicking to interface properly the build quality, sound quality, and overall experience have been very positive. I'm looking forward to doing some bigger projects are pushing the equipment a bit more than I have so far!

Pretty much a plug-and-play with my MacBook Pro! Works perfectly with GarageBand. You will need to download the 'management' software because you can't customize things like monitor feeds and such without it... You won't have much luck with a dynamic mic as mic gain is very low. All is good using condenser type mics using phantom power (48V).

I bought this from Guitar Center today, so I've only had a few hours to play around with it. Initial impressions are a bit negative. I was disappointed at how necessary the Focusrite Control software is needed for this device. It wouldn't even give me sound until I configured my outputs through this software. After I found a good workflow through this software, it works just fine! I'll probably come back when I have a full band playing through this thing. Using this interface with Ableton was absolutely a breeze! ProTools... well, I still have learning to do with how to configure all of ProTool's tricks. Definitely worth every penny though. Inputs and Outputs work brilliantly, and it's an absolute must if you're going to be recording different instruments to different tracks. Also great for recording separate mics for podcasts and pretty much anything where you need to record mics separately. I really wish I would've purchased this product four years ago.

Great quality piece of gear for a home studio. My son has been making drum covers as of late and with 8 channels the Scarlett handles everything very well. He's using it with a newer Mac mini and Logic Pro X and the quality of the recordings have been pretty stunning.

Fantastic audio interface, great sounding preamps and high quality signal processing. For the price, you won't find a better 8 mic pre interface. Perfect for budget home studios trying to break into live drum tracking. High quality build too, it's quite heavy and durable for those who would bring it out to practice spaces or mobile studio owners.

I love the focusrite Scarlett 18i20. Amazing sounding mic pres and ease of use. If you're running a mac just install the LATEST version of Focusrite Control and you're ready to go! Works on any DAW out there!

For this price range very good quality product

My system: Focusrite Scarlett 18i20, Pro Tools 10.3, Win7 SP1, Gigabyte GA-Z97N motherboard with 8Gb Ram. I couldn't get this to install on my Win10 music rig initially. But I was due a clearout so I wiped the C drive and did a fresh Win7 install, giving it a full set of updates. Then when I plugged the Scarlett in after installing the Focusrite Control centre it all went fine. And everything is very stable under Pro Tools. The converters sound bright and punchy, and the mic preamps are reasonably quiet. Most aspects of this machine are well designed and decent quality. I'm not fussed about the Phantom power switching arrangement. My dynamic mics are balanced and aren't affected by having 48 volts across them. My only criticism is of the 'Control Centre' app. With 25 years experience as digital audio engineer this thing is the craziest routing software I've EVER seen. Come on Focusrite it's as mad as a box of frogs, design us something better ;-)

Heat sensitive, sit it next to another preamp and it will overheat and shutdown.
