A Manbooker Contender for Trivia
Over the past six months or so, I’ve developed the bad habit of collecting trivia books. I buy one, I read a bit, I put it down. They make their way to a shelf or surface that’s too far for me to reach when it’s the most convenient. Worse, they’ve piled underneath my repurposed IKEA table to the point it’s starting to sag. That said, this is one I keep coming back to over and over.Could you get Sir/Saint Ken Jennings’ trivia tome? Yes, you could. Will it be as readable as Duh! ? Certainly not.The best aspect of this book is the writing. It’s not another trivia book where’s its only questions and answers. Yes it has those, but it’s well-written and informative. You might actually retain some of the information you read here as opposed to all the other trivia books out there.Sorry-quiz. Not trivia. The book is sectioned off by categories (food, sports, furry kinkdom, mayonnaise crafts, etc) and each chapter contains a frustratingly easy question. What’s a frustratingly easy question? It’s the feeling of finding your glasses on your head when you’ve looked for them for an hour. It’s discovering the sock that went missing was in your shoe the whole time. It’s the lift of shame when you finally realize you no longer have to go to church. Still not sure what that is? Buy the book and find out!In the grandest of ironies, this review, like many blogs I’ve written, was conveniently erased when I was almost finished writing it.

Geek Book Smart Make
I've been a patron for Geeks Who Drink for 5+ years, and what separates them from most other bar trivia companies out there is the writing style of the questions. Quirky yet informative, and usually with a teensy context clue within them, the questions are part of the fun. This book is like their quiz on B12 shots. Or whatever the hell Rafael Palmeiro shot into his buttocks *cough steroids cough*.This book goes into great detail behind the answers to questions you SHOULD know, but in a way that isn't insulting or demeaning. The whole book is "these are some cool facts we found, ima share my knowledge with you."

At least you can't lose when playing trivia in book form
Even if you don't play Geeks Who Drink trivia (and you should - what's wrong with you?!) you'll find something to like in this book. The off-beat, off-the-wall, and often off-the-hook historical anecdotes are fascinating glimpses into bygone times (or current times - who knows? Colorado has many fine products these days). Anyhoo, come for the trivia, stay for the fascinating facts, and enjoy a lot of laughs and snark along the way - just like at a GWD quiz!

Hilarious and informative
The stories are amazing and you get so much more than just the answer to the question. Lots of cool behind the scenes tidbits. A great read with short little points for between rounds at quiz!

Fun format!
If your attention span is as garbage as mine, you'll enjoy the back and forth of reading a question and then jumping to the chapter to check your answer. Even if you were right, you'll still likely learn something new about the subject!
