Excellent background of how America stepped into the role of Imperial power.Just wish Bush(s), Cheney, Rumsfeld & Co. had this fascinating book at their side when they were planning their "excursions" into the Middle East.Anyone interested in learning how we got to where we are today (2013) in Middle East, must read this essential book.Extensive footnotes & references.Wonderful book. I expect to read it again.
