The right tool for the job at the right price.
I usually won't rate a produce if I haven't used it, but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that this riddler is exactly what it'll take to efficiently sift the perlite, pine bark, crushed rock, and Turface for the fast-draining aerated growing mixes I need for my house plants, so I feel fine fully recommending this riddler. The frame and screens are well constructed and much more sturdy than necessary to support the weight of the soil, compost, crushed rock or gravel it can hold. The frame consists of cylinders of sturdy sheet metal, crimped and rolled to connect the cylinders, create ridges to strengthen its structure, provide a firm grip of the assembly, and support the screens, and the metal is rolled under in some places to put sharp edges away from fingers. The screens rest on a ridge inside the frame and a brace made of two crossed pieces of heavy gauge 3mm wire. The ends of the wires are inserted in and soldered to the deep crimp that provides a handhold, and are soldered together where they cross under the screen. The screens sort of snap into the frame so they don't fall out when the frame is emptied. One screen didn't want to fit in at first, but once I figured out it isn't quite round I just turned it 90 degrees and it went in easily. All in all, the build is solid and consistent and the finish is more than adequate to handle rough, dirty material, and I'm confident that it'll be a pleasure to use.I was prepared to smooth rough, sharp or splintered edges with sandpaper before using it, but the riddler is as safely finished as I'd expect for this kind of device. None of the edges are ragged or sharp, even to my tender hands, though I can see how someone with big hands who wasn't paying attention could cut themselves on a crimped edge if they press down while running their fingers along an edge, much as you can give yourself a surprisingly deep paper cut if you handle a piece of paper just the right (or wrong) way.Don't forget that all tools have their limitations and need to be cared for. At 12" across, this riddler will make slow work of much more than the amounts of material needed to pot up a few plants, and even heavy gauge sheet metal and wire will warp and bend, solders will fail, and screens won't stay in place if they or the frame been dropped or are forced into place. But if you take reasonable care of your riddler I'm sure you'll get years of good use out of it.All in all it's a great value for the price, and I look forward to using it.

Fair construction but QC is poor
This appeared to be the top of the line dirt sifter based on material and specification, and while the stainless material is good for long term durability, the lack of quality control was the reason for knocking off two stars. The first issue was that there were very tiny metal splinters that for embedded in my finger with in the first minute of inbox in it. After using tweezers to remove the razor sharp shard, I proceeded to inspect it very carefully for more. Not finding any on the main body, I picked up one of he screens and was promptly stabbed by another metal splinter! Inspected the other three screens and found no more splinters. The other construction annoyance is that there are a lot of sharp edges all over the main body. I spent fifteen minutes with a file to remove them, essentially so that I would handle all the pieces without needing to work about slicing up my hands. On a plus note, the wire cross bar is of sufficient size that it should be sturdy with a full load of soil. And the mesh inserts and the body are tack welded pretty well.UPDATE (11/2017): I'm revising my rating from 3 to 4 stars. Since buying this (07/2016), I have sifted a lot of dirt. The frame has held up well, and all four screens get used every time, and all have held up well.

Well made and sturdy. Works great for potting soils!
I am well pleased with this product. I bought it to help sift my used potting soil and compost. The variety of different sieve sizes are perfect for soil. I was sifting out roots, bark, baked clay balls, and stones for relatively small amounts of soil (Avg of about 8 to 12 quarts). The sieve sizes fit well and stayed in place. I would get this again.

Well made and still happy 1 1/2 years later
This is a well made product. I don't even take very good care of these, I've left this outside in the rain since I bought it. I don't clean it between uses. It usually has a thick coating of worm castings or compost on it. When I do clean it off, there's no rust whatsoever. My only complaint is that it is just a tiny bit too large to fit inside a standard 5 gallon paint bucket so it is constantly flopping around as I push around piles of compost for making potting soil. It gets frustrating really fast. It only needs to be just 1/16th of an inch less diameter, maybe not even that.Does anyone know of a good way to soften the top of the plastic bucket? If I could soften it up enough I could probably stretch the bucket rim to make this fit snug. Unfortunately my heat gun is for shrink tubing and just isn't powerful enough.

Needs a bottom - something to sift into
The product is solid and made well enough, but it really needs some sort of bottom to fit under the screen. If I am harvesting, say, celosia seeds and want to separate the seeds from the chafing, I need something that fits snugly underneath to catch the seeds. I didn't catch that this didn't come with one of those, and even though what I have will fit my needs (if a little clumsily), I think I paid too much.

Use regularly
This is doing the various tasks I ask of it. It is small enough for one person to use with ease. It can sit atop a pail, or slip onto a trug. It had been sifting compost, and soil. I removed a star because not all of the screens fit well into the ring. One is hard to put into the ring and harder to get out. One falls out when flipped over to dump what it collected. That one that falls out is a bit frustrating. But for the price, it is ok for me. It is in use in my gardens.

Works great!
Really liking this soil sieve, just wish it was 1/4” larger so it would fit perfect onto a 5 gallon bucket. The different screens are easy pop out & clean. Every gardener should have one, especially folks who grow from seed

Il setaccio che ho acquistato, con reti intercambiabili aventi maglie di misure diverse, è proprio lo strumento adatto che io cercavo per spargere terriccio dopo la semina dell'erba in giardino. Ottimo il rapporto qualità prezzo.

Top Produkt, jederzeit wieder!!!
