Our beach has constant 15 - 20mph winds. Can anyone attest that it will hold up in these conditions - we’ve struck out several times. Thanks!

we had 15 - 25 mph winds at the Outer Banks and the tent stayed up with no problem as long as you keep the window flaps open and put the back of the tent into the wind. Bring along better tent stakes...the short thin ones work fine for the guylines but are not sturdy enough for the anchor points. The sand pouches are the best for keeping the tent on the ground in windy conditions and you can just turn them inside out to empty them!

My local beach (Santa Monica) only allows “sun shade without walls” does this tent fall in that category?

Your mileage may vary. Plenty of homeless with tents on the beach and dogs both on/off leash (dogs not allowed either). Just depends on which lifeguards are on duty and if they feel like enforcing it. I imagine if all the flaps are open then they won't mind so much. Having the flaps open allows for transparency - you can't hide your illegal activities if everything is open.
