Sturdy w/ issues
The PROS:1. The safe is solid. At about 35 pounds, it can be shipped and is easy enough to transport.2. The password is flexible and can be from 4 to 6 numbers. To change the password is easy.3. It's flat size but substantial volume makes it a good fit for under the bed or in a closet. It fits both my laptops, my pistol, camera, and more.4. There is a little light in the safe that goes on when open. This was a welcome surprise.5. The safe is well packaged for shipmentnt. A sturdy box and lots of foam.6. The external, backup battery pack could come in handy if the batteries die. The keys are an additional backup. The CONS:1. The master code will not reset. The user manual describes how to reset it with 5 easy steps. The problem is that they don't work! Since the master code is in the user manual and is available to the everyone, without being reset, the safe is useless. Anyone who looks on the web knows the combination!!! I contacted user support of Protex on their website via email and they have yet to get back to me. It has been over a week with no reply.2. The keypad is not lit up. The prssed numbers do show up on a screen, but a dark keypad makes it impracticle for night use if I am looking to unlock my pistol in a hurry. The buttons beep when pressed which potentially gives away my location to an intruder.3. The bolts that it comes with are only to be used in concrete. Not a practical installation for a "Do-it-yourselfer" (Unless you want to drill four 1/2" holes, 3" into solid concrete. In addition, I bet most won't be installing it on concrete anyway. It's a hotel safe after all. I am disappointed that for the price they didn't include other mounting options.4. The metal floor of the safe, which the bolts go through, is thin. It could likely be pulled up even if bolted in. In addition, the bottom is recessed so when it is bolted down, the floor of the safe has to be deformed to lie flush with the mounting surface. You'll have to add some washers as spacers or a thin spacer board for mounting. It's just a poor design on the bottom.there are less expensive options which have these problems. For the price, I expected more.

Protex BG20. Nearly 7 years of ownership works perfectly.
I have owned this BG 20 Protex Safe for more than 6 years and have had NO problems with it. It has anchoring holes built into it for secure mounting to a floor or a secure shelf. It comes with a standard security code which you change by following the very simple instructions that come with it. This model has no light to draw down power.
