Good tool for making foods in mini muffin trays
I bought this to try to make sausage cups in my mini muffin tray.It says it is for pastry, but I figured it would work fine for my low carb sausage and egg muffins.I was pushing the sausage down in with my fingers, but thought this would work better.Well, yes and no!It works great to spread out the sausage into a cup shape in the tins.BUT - meat sticks to the wood. Not sure if it sticks to pastry or not.I tried greasing it, tried spraying it with pam, but it still stuck to the meat.It still cut my time in making them in half, so all in all, I am glad I bought it.

Great Tool.
I bought this tamper for my meals in a jar. I have several recipes that require you to pack down the ingredients before adding another layer. I tried using wooden spoons as they suggested, with no luck. I saw someone use this in a tutorial and I ordered it online. Great tool, easy to use and gets the job done fast. I especially like that it is multi-functional. I use it to pack down ingredients in jars, press out dough for tarts and use it for cookies that require a well in the center for fillings.

Add some work to make this GREAT
>.. For those who haven't figured this out, this is made of wood. Wood is made of fibers, some hard and some soft. That accounts for the little checks and small gaps at the ends. those little checks and gaps can hold food residue, that doesn't come out until you use it again. With wood, this is expected, but can be fixed.>.. To fix the problems, rub water over the whole tool. This raises the soft grain when the tool dries. Sand with medium and fine sandpaper, or fingernail sanders (spongy rectangles). Repeat if you're a detailed person. Wipe with damp cloth to get the sanded wood off the tool.>.. The edges of the two ends will still have gaps and some checks. And the progression from center to edge is mostly full of gaps as the fibers are cut to make the transition to the edges. To fill the gaps, holes, and checks, i recommend CA Glue, medium density. This is also known as super glue. Wearing gloves, apply the glue to all the rough, open areas. the medium density glue will flow into the wood itself, and fill the gaps. Do one end at a time to give you a way to put it down and NOT glue it to that surface. Cap the glue. if you add accelerator it will dry faster, but it is not required.>.. Repeat for the other side once it is dry.>.. Then, once both sides are dry, sand smooth. The glue dries clear, and will look like the wood, for the most part. Sanding will make everything as smooth as plastic or metal that was injection molded. leave the center wood alone, as it is good to have a bit of a grip on things. Coat the whole piece in mineral oil to seal any open wood.... TOO MUCH WORK? Then buy a different model. This one BELONGS to you, because you worked on it.

No coating, raw wood
This tart tamper is great because it has the different sized ends. With that said, it is unfinished so I gave it a 4. Sorry but I'll just end up throwing it away after a few uses. Hard to sanitize because it soaks up whatever you clean it with. If anyone out there has any suggestions on how to clean and sanitize it without causing splinters, please let me know. I applied olive oil to it before using it the first time. It works just fine as far as pushing the dough down in the cups. But keep flour on it or it'll get sticky and rip up your dough. I use the large end for mincing dried herbs works great.

Glad I didn't listen to the other reviews
Reading some of the reviews here I expected to get a splintery piece of wood that made tarts full of splinters.Glad I didn't listen to the other reviews, this product is great. It used to take me 20 minutes to press Hong Kong style custard tarts which is the most time consuming part of the whole process. Now I can get it done in less than 3 minutes. That's a lot of time saved. Just make sure you dip it in flour between each tart and spin it slightly when lifting up so the dough will release. Takes a little practice but the time saved is worth every penny.

So convenient!!!
This wood tart tamper is amazing! I bought it to make my mini cheesecake crust. Fits perfectly to press down. I did wrap the bottom of the tart tamper with Saran Wrap that way it was clean and it wouldn’t leave the grease spots from the butter in the crust. But other than that, sizing is perfect and sooo easy to use and clean. Love it!!!
