The Hollows

A heart pounding, hair raising thrill fest of a read!
Tom is a single dad whose daughter Frankie lives in America with her mum. I felt a bit sorry for Tom as he doesn’t earn a great deal so only really sees his daughter once a year for a holiday. Frankie is your typical teen who is only interested in her phone but the more I got to know her, the more I liked her. Hollow Falls itself is a campsite in a scenic setting full of log cabins and has plenty of activities for its guests. For Tom and Frankie, it should be a lovely break to spend some quality bonding time together only it doesn’t quite turn out that way.It isn’t long before odd things start to happen of which the nearby town especially freaked me out! This is one of those stories that if it was a movie you would be hiding behind a cushion. Of course you can’t do that when reading a book but in some parts I was scared to turn the page as I wasn’t sure I was prepared for what was going to happen next. I love how the author has turned such a lovely setting into somewhere so eerie where I wouldn’t want to wander off anywhere on my own!The Hollows is a horror/thriller story that will have the hairs on your arms standing on end. The pacing was relentless and wouldn’t let me go. It had my heart racing by the end even well after I had finished it as was so spooked out. I’m used to this author’s books being dark but this really does have the scare factor. A heart pounding, hair raising thrill fest of a read!

Creepy Horror In The Woods Story
I am a Mark Edwards fan, but I felt this fell a little short on his usual quality offerings. There is lots of setting the scene going on and the book did not really get interesting until the final few chapters.A father takes his daughter on holiday to The Hollows which are basically woods in the wild which were the location of a double murder in the long distant past. A group is staying in the woods who are trying to solve the puzzle of the murders as the perpetrator was never caught. Funny going ons start occurring but is it connected to the murders or a new campaign of murder? It all came together well at the end but as I found the story a slow burner, I would not recommend it.

Hollow Falls
Okay, but not my favourite, even though I am a great fan of Mark Edwards. When a divorced British father flies over to America, to take his teenage daughter to a campsite in the Maine woods, he intends to spend some quality time together. But 'Hollow Falls' is not your average woodland resort, where you can peacefully relax and become one with nature. Unusual happenings, things disappearing and strangers masquerading behind bizarre, ritualistic masks is just the beginning. A twenty year old, long secret, may hold the key to the mysterious happenings, but every moment spent in eerie 'Hollow Falls', is fraught with danger. The book is in three parts, I found the first part to be rather slow and lacking, but the other two are much better, with a nice climax at the end.

Not the best from Mark Edwards
Read on Kindle. Well written but a bit boring for me to begin with. Very long winded in parts. I wasn't able to really get into the book until I was about 80% through. The is first of Mark's books where I have felt like that. But still, I'm looking forward to the next one.

IF YOU GO DOWN IN THE WOODS....
I hesitated over this book and then bought it. Very slow moving for much of the story and the end suggests some sort of franchise in the mind of the author. He need not bother for me.
