Q: Will this work for insulating from the heat of a hot climate too?

I would assume so, though we live in Maine near the coast where it can be in the teens and 20s sometimesduring the weather; I assume it would work since 3M is an excellent product - the hardware versionsdon't seem to work as well. You'll need the 3M tape for this as well.

Q: Has anyone had success applying this to a window without trim? Our 50s track house just has drywall-cased windows.

Old query, but for newbies: this would work as well to keep the A/C air away from the window pane, thus it would insulate heat as well as cold. It's just physics. It forms a dead air space just like a storm window (if you know what those are up north). You could leave it on, but probably would not last permanently. I don't see how you could use glue; it is intended to be mounted only with the double stick tape provided in the box. Browse other replies who have said that they applied it directly to dry wall (sheet rock). BTW another response said: “Yes but you can run into a moisture issue. We tried it and it it worked well except that the A/C created condensation on the plastic which eventually pooled up between the window and the plastic creating mold”

Q: How does this hold up compared to frost king?

This holds up much better then frost king... I have never had frost king last a whole season on my windows but the 3M lasts no matter how long the cold season has lasted. I will never go back to using Frost King again.
