Gorgeous picture book to introduce kids to Alma
A beautiful picture book that introduces students to an amazing artist. So many extension activities could be done at home or school to compliment the story.

Best book to show her talent
My preschoolers loved looking at and listening to this book. We also created art projects from looking at the beautiful colors.

For kindergarten level readers
My kindergartener granddaughter who is learning how to read and is a budding artist loves this book so much so she wants me to read it to her class. Maybe the book could have gone more into Alma’s life but the school talked about her during Black History month so the kids have some idea about her. It is written for age appropriate children (between 5&7). It’s worth the purchase.

Best for ages 3-6
It’s hard buying kids books online, but this is more appropriate for ages 3-5, maybe 6. I bought it for an art lesson on Alma Thomas for a 2nd grade class.

Cute, but not quite what I was expecting
As an elementary art teacher I had super high hopes for this book as a possible teaching tool for my little artists…if that is why you are thinking about this book too, maybe a different book is what we both are looking for. This is a sweet book- the illustrations are lovely and very colorful, lots of repetition and ideal for little readers (pre-K to K). but the attempt to connect to Alma Woodsey Thomas is a stretch both is story and style.

Several pages are rippled.
The book is lovely with all the colors and perfect for smaller aged children (ps, pk, and k). It's a simple story but didn't really say much about the actual artist, Alma Thomas. The sad thing is several of the pages are rippled. Both the box and the book arrived without any water damage so I'm not sure why the pages would be rippled.
