Can it go on thick like a clown white but also be applied for a faded (old man/woman) look?

It goes on pretty thick. I have really tanned skin and there were no faded spots. It isn't good for a faded or blended look. It also doesn't mix well with other face paint, but is a good base if you don't want things to smudge.

How do you make it spreadable?

You can wet the brush with water and run it over the paint to pick up product or add a few drops of water to the paint directly. I keep a tiny spray bottle and add water to the paint pot.

Is it water activated?

Yes, it is water activated, not grease paint, not powder, although it is a brighter more solid white than the other face paints with which I am familiar.

Best type of primer to use as a base for this face paint?

You won't need a base for this face paint. It is very pigmented and I am a very tan individual and it covered my face completely.
