Why you should read Surviving Lilly
Can't get my fourth grade reader to read it - but it is an excellent, very readable book with a strong social justice issue - animal abuse (specific to circus animals). I think most kids would like the book - 2 main characters - a boy and a girl - plus a very involved school scenario...6th grade class. Enjoy!

I loved this book!
Have you ever tried to save an elephant? Erin and David have. Erin and David, with their class, met their goal for reading minutes. Now their teacher, Mrs.Dawson will take them to the circus as their reward, but Erin and David do not want to go. They researched about circuses and found out that circuses treat their animals very poorly. They saw an elephant named Lilly. She was in chains and had many wounds. Will Mrs.Dawson's heart change and will Erin and David be able to save Lilly? There are three reasons why this book is very amazing. The first reason is that it is a great book for animal lovers. It is about a mistreated elephant and has a fifth-grader's hard effort to save Lilly the elephant. My second reason is that is that the theme is determination. These fifth-graders work hard to try to save Lilly (gardening, car washing, etc.) and make you want to be as kind as them. Even Erin's sister helps out, who is older than Erin and obsessed with contests. My third reason is that Lilly will make you feel bad for mistreated circus animals and make you want to make an effort to help them. If you are like Mrs.Dawson your heart will change and you will be like Erin who felt bad for Lilly. You will put yourself in Lilly's place and feel her feelings.Read Saving Lilly by Peg Kehret and you will truly be touched by this animal lover's story.

AWESOME book!!
What a FANTASTIC book!! My seven year old daughter and I read this together and it was truly inspiring. I've always refused to bring my kids to any venue where animals are forced to do tricks for profit. I tell my kids you will learn the most about an animal by watching its behavior in the wild! I love this book because the kids were intelligent, team-players who got the job done!. There was no pointless potty-humor (tired of kids acting like morons in some kids-books) so this was yet another book by Peg Kehret that was a breath of fresh air. She is a wonderful story-teller!

My 11 year old daughter loved the book. Peg Kehret is her favorite author so i expected her to enjoy it. This book did not disappoint. Top notch, as always.
