A Different Dan Reno!
In this fourth book in the series Dan has a new live-in girlfriend named Candi that I really like and has quit his hard drinking rowdy lifestyle. Skiing down in the backcountry right before Christmas Dan literally runs over the body of a young woman buried in the snow. A week later on New Years the body of a bimbo that his buddy Cody has been seeing turns up on the shore of the lake.Dan is hired by the father of first dead woman to find the killer, the primary suspects being a couple of rival biker gangs, a strip club owner and a crooked cop......sound familiar? I felt the investigation was rather weak and Dan does waste some time checking out a couple of ridiculous suspects that adds nothing to the story. The clue to the real killer comes out of left field and is absurd leading to a weak conclusion to the mystery. This story is a good read but definitely a step down from previous books in the series. I am beginning to feel like I am reading the same story over and over again. I am also getting tired of Cody's absurd antics!

snowdown
Interesting plot twists, and clues, that present an interesting story of revenged grief and betrayal. You’re on the trail of the serial killer but he’s hard to see, until he’s there. I liked this book mostly for the relationship that has brought our main character stability in his life but has not taken anything from his commitment at finding justice. As aways, a good read, especially for a sunny afternoon at the beach.

Stanton just keeps rolling them out!
I very much enjoy these characters and the fact sometimes luck plays a role in life as well as intuition. Stanton's writing style definitely works for me, keeps me wanting more

Great Twist
Loved the storyline and character. Couldn't figure out who the murderer was throughout. Loved the completely unexpected twist and explanation. Goofy dialogue sometimes.

Entertaining Detective Novel
Dan Reno is an entertaining protagonist just short of being supernatural in his detective abilities but totally human in every other way. He’s rough as a cob, as the old hill folks back where I grew up would say, but can be as sophisticated as he needs to be.His partner has the rough as a cob part down pat but carries a strong trait of brutality along with a great deal of business savvy. Together they are formidable indeed. These books are fun to read and would make an outstanding series for a cable network or video streaming company. I will continue to read them.

Dan Reno, always a nice surprise
Been enjoying the Dan Reno series as a well contorted plot series. Never too deep ,yet with enough twist to hold your interest.

A very good read.
I don't often write reviews; the book must be a pretty captivating read. This one is. It might get a little slow with various hypotheses about who committed the murders of two young women coming up for consideration and eventual rejection, but there's a lot of imagination in the introductory and concluding segments; they are well written.A good thriller for a guy to spend a day or so with.

A great read. Highly recommended.
If you enjoy gritty, fast-paced crime, you can't go wrong with Dan Reno (pronounced Renault). He's tough. He's witty, and he always gets his man. No, he's not a Mountie, he's a private detective working out of Lake Tahoe, on the border between Nevada and California. It’s a stunning backdrop, but more of that later...In this episode, which takes place in a snowy midwinter, he's hunting the killer of two beautiful blonde women, and he also runs up against two rival motorcycle gangs. What Dan doesn't know is whether the cases are linked. As well as the murders and the biker gangs, there is a drugs connection, seedy nightclubs, and a dirty cop who might be at the centre of it all.Stanton’s writing is crisp, clean, and first rate. The cases are interesting and appear tough to crack, there’s a real police procedural feel to the investigations. But above everything is the landscape. Superbly realised by a writer of great skill, it forms a backdrop to the action, and becomes one of the main characters of the novel. The human characters are well drawn, especially Dan and his best mate, Cody, and there’s a love interest, too. And to prove he’s note a complete Neanderthal, Dan has a new addition to his household in the shape of a fluffy kitten—although he still calls his significant other ‘Doll’ in a throwback to the noir 1950s gumshoes, Sam Spade and Philip Marlow. If you like action, criminal investigation, and a noir style, you’ll love this novel. In fact, what's not to like?I whistled through this book in a couple of days.

Excellent crime thriller.
If your a fan of the previous 4 novels this is a must read. Suspense right up till the end.Has me hooked from the very start. liked the fact that the killer wasn't an obvious suspect. One of my favorite crime authors.

Another cracking Dan Reno novel from Dave Stanton .....
Another cracking Dan Reno novel from Dave Stanton. The characters are so good and the novels so well written I just cannot put the books down. The books have a Peter James feel about them and Dan seems to have the same values and standards as Roy Grace but Dan obviously does not stay within the law all of the time! This one has a great plot with crooked cops, nutters and biker gangs and how the come together or don't as the case may be is testament to how well written the book is, a great read.
