Get collecting SE Asia Textiles?
This book is an excellent guide to the general SE Asia area's ethnic textile production.Published in 2007 Angela Thompson cover the key areas of interest including history , symbolism, traditions, techniques and links between the counties of SE Asia. The price is a steal as most books on this subject area are considerably more expensive. The production/printing is also good with some lovely illustrations of the people and their textiles.

Beautifully illustrated and authoritative
A very interesting coverage of the textiles of South East Asia with lovely illustrations. Reading the first part before I went to Thailand and the rest since I returned has greatly enhanced my visit.

Very good overview
This impressive work encompasses history, anthropology, and an expert exposition of textile arts from this region where textiles may denote group identity and may represent a large portion of a family's wealth. The author draws upon both published information and her own extensive travels in the area, describing practices and techniques that she observed in use in situ. She illustrates cultural and historical patterns in costume, often with the aid of temple paintings, sculpture, and historic photographs to supplement current images. Her descriptions of techniques, for example of weaving, are admirably balanced -- detailed enough to inform while presented with sufficient general information for a non-specialist reader. The illustrative material is good, often her own or her son's photographs, that shows the labor-intensive processes and world-class skills as well as the resulting spectacular museum pieces. This is an excellent serious introductory overview to the textiles of South-east Asia.

Good info
This book contains good information, good photos, and puts the content in context. It is a good buy if you are looking for some research/reference material. The book covers a lot of geographical area and many types of textiles so the trade off, of course, is that it doesn't offer extensive details on specific topics.
