Great
I really like the way Sam Allberry straightforward simplicity way of explaining a topic. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed another book by Sam. Great subject and well done in the way you bring it to life. “For You formed my innermost parts; You knit me [together] in my mother’s womb. I will give thanks and praise to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made...” Psalms 139:13-14 AMP.

Great read
Great read as always by Sam Alberry. Not so much novel content, but very refreshing reminders of truths targeted at the topic of our bodies.

Solid and Simple
I really enjoyed this book and think that it would be a great resource for others who may be going through doubts, struggles, or body image issues. The author communicates with a lot of honesty, compassion and thought, and so it is easy to recommend this to a wide audience. In my view, this is a purposefully simple read, so if you are looking for an in-depth, intense study, then this is probably not the resource for you. But if you are looking for thoughtful, Biblical theology, then this is a wonderful addition. Sam Allberry is a tremendous pastoral voice and communicates with so much cador and grace, that it is hard to dismiss any of his work.

Very practical and full of wisdom
Excellent book - grounded in Scripture and full of wisdom. Sam Allberry helps us unpack the theology of our bodies - and why they matter to God. Highly recommend this book.

Nothing New Here, But A Good Read
This book, "What God Has to Say about Our Bodies" is a basic summary of the Bible's teaching about the body. It's not the only Christian book that discusses this topic, to be sure. Quite a bit of the info in this book is found in other Christian books so it doesn't exactly fill a niche. Several times while reading this book I was thinking about other books that say the same thing and I ended up skimming. However, "What God Has to Say..." does a good job giving clear expositions of various Biblical teachings on the body. There are three parts to the book: Created Bodies, Broken Bodies, Redeemed Bodies. Allberry does talk about gender and sex - those hot-button issues - and does a good job explaining them biblically. He also talks about death and resurrection in helpful ways. And the book nicely keeps coming back to the gospel. (As a side, I did think Allberry used the word "broken" too much and quoted Ray Ortlund and C.S. Lewis more than enough.)Overall this really is a good book and I do recommend it. However, as one other reviewer noted, Allberry mentioned sex but didn't even mention childbearing once. Also, this book doesn't really answer the questions one might have about the bodies of unbelievers. I realize an author can't do everything in one book, so I'm not overly critical about this, but I would've liked to have some guidance in thinking (for example) about the body of my nonChristian friend. How can I talk to him about his body? But that's possibly the topic of a different book.If you haven't read many books on this topic, I'd say get it!

Worthy read
It took me some time to complete this book and write this review. It was not a difficult read; in fact, it was quite the opposite but I found myself not wanting to read a lot at once. Small bites at time seemed to work best for me.First, let me preface my review by noting that I had no knowledge of the author prior to reading this so I didn't know what to expect. However, I found the title intriguing and I was not disappointed. In addition to its easy-to-read writing style, there were a number of things about the book that impressed me. While clearly the material was viewed through a Christian lens, I couldn't identify a particular denomination from reading it. I consider this a plus in that, to me, it is good reading for a broad audience. Catholics, Protestants, and Orthodox readers would, I believe, find much to gain from it.Another strength of the book is that it could appeal to people who are on the fringes of Christianity or who have left churches behind because of negative experiences in their teaching about the body. The author carefully builds a solid case for the goodness of our bodies and their integral role in our spiritual life. He crafts this perspective from the Bible but he doesn't hit you over the head with it nor does he cherry-pick lines from Scripture to support an agenda. Toward the end of the book, I was delighted to better understand passages from Paul's first letter to the Corinthians. The positive and rational nature of his discussion would not likely be offensive even to people who aren't ready to buy the whole Christian package. As a psychologist, I was pleased with the attention the author gave to body image and the struggles so many people have with it. Again, he approached the topic with sensitivity and compassion. While drawing the reader to another perspective, his response to this dilemma that pervades our culture was neither preachy nor overly simplistic. This book was a good overview and it left me wanting to know more about the author's perspective on some of the more controversial body-related issues that confuse and divide Christian communities and our culture in general. While I have a sense of where he is heading with those and undoubtedly some will disagree or be uncomfortable with his conclusions, I can anticipate that he will address them in his other books with equal sensitivity as he did in this book. The Christian churches would do well to follow his lead, leaving behind judgmental stances in favor of truly learning and living the Gospel message.I appreciate the opportunity to read and review this book. Thank you.
