Like the story, hate the pictures
The story (a high five competition where the reader “wins”) is interactive, clever and entertaining. I’d enjoy reading this book a lot more if the illustrations weren’t awful to look at. Totally different style of art than Dragons Love Tacos. I don’t get the aesthetic...it also makes it hard for my toddler to follow along (he has great stamina for listening, but probably doesn’t comprehend everything orally, thus the pictures are critical to support his understanding. Due to the sketch-like quality of these drawings, it’s hard to decipher what’s going on (ex: the elephant doesn’t really look like an elephant).

Be Warned, Your Kids Will High Five Anything With a Pulse
We're big fans of Adam Rubin and Daniel Salmieri. This book rolls right into there style with a ton of comedy and creativity, and this time, it all rhymes! The littlest one doesn't quite grasp it, but she loves the energy and rhythm of the book. My older had a lot of fun of creating his own high five, as the book suggests. One downside - both of them have become high five fanatics, high-fiving over the most mundane and routine activities.Daddy made waffles? High five. Going to the park? High Five. Absolutely nothing happens? High Five. We're getting used to the fact that our kids are high five champions. You will too.

A rare miss for Rubin
Adam Rubin is one of the best children’s writers in modern times. This book is proof that he should never have attempted to write in verse. It doesn’t flow at all, the meter is all wrong, and his usual comedy is largely lost because he’s forced into a structure that isn’t for him. A rare miss for this awesome duo.
