Long-time Favorite
Long time favorite. One of the discussions with a nephew lead to him stating Lord of the Rings was the best fantasy of all time. I asked him what else he had read, and there wasn't anything. So this was one of my top picks for him to expand his mind.

Good read, fun characters and lots of action
As a reader of the Nightside and Secret Histories (Drood Family) series of SImon Green's, I was intrigued to check this book out. Great read from a "medieval fantasy" type angle - good storyline, lots of action, funny/gregarious characters. That's one of the things I love about Green - his characters are good for a laugh, usually in a snarky, hard-boiled gumshoe type way. Some of the characters actually reminded me of those from his other series - not sure whether that's a good thing or not.All in all, it was a good read, though I think his Nightside and Secret Histories series are better. That being said, I'll still probably pick up the next one in this series.

If you like the Shrek/Donkey banter
This reminded me of Shrek and Donkey on a journey with some evil demons thrown in. If you like the Shrek/Donkey banter, you will like this book. I stopped reading after the first in the series as I like something darker with fewer talking Unicorns.

One of the best
Simon R Greene is one of my favorite authors, and this is by far my favorite of his books. Excellent writing and a great plot come together to form an amazing story that stands well alone or with the rest of the series!

Wonderful spin on Sword and Sorcery
I read this book over 20 years ago, after having read the entire Hawk and Fisher series. I have to say this book is great, both as prequel and as a stand alone story. It is an interesting take on prince rescuing the princess, quite diffrent than what would be normally be expected in such a story, and well worth your time. It has definitely stayed in my reread list over the years. I don't want to spoil the story, but Simon Green wrote an amazing cast of characters for this, and while a little violent for younger readers, it is a fast paced story that you won't want to put down. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

More than 60 missing pages!
PLEASE BE CAREFUL WHAT EDITION YOU BUY!I don’t want to give a synopsis of the books. The one provided by Amazon is already pretty good.Beforehand I have read the „Hawk and Fisher“ series and I couldn’t wait for more adventures of them and other people from this world. When I finally got hold of this book, I started to read and suddenly the page following page 288 was not page 289 but page 353! I looked really hard and I couldn’t find the missing pages elsewhere in the book!I have the 2005 edition of „A Roc Book“.I don’t know if other editions have the missing pages or if just mine has this flow, but I advise you to watch what book you are buying!I don’t want to miss what’s on the missing pages, but I also want to know the ending!Ich hope you don’t have to suffer the same as me.

Mesmerising
A brilliant foray into the forest Kingdom this was a great start to what will be another great series from Simon r Green, Rupert is just what a Prince should be strong sarcastic a bit jadeded and in love with the princess who can hold her own and fight her own battles without someone telling her how too
