You can always step down when using a larger filter/lens hood on a smaller thread. Why not just buy the right size hood instead. I am not one to use stepping rings unless I have to.

The metal thing with a point... Is to push the cable (string) throughout the holes on the pinch cap.. Is a little bit harder without the metal.
