Because She Loves Me

Brilliant
To think I've had this book on my Kindle for months before getting around to actually reading it. What a fool! Simply the best book of read in ages. Once I started it I could barely put it down. Lots of twists and turns, it'll keep you guessing right until the end.

Reasonably engaging until the 'twist' about 3/4 way in then loses credibility
Starts OK. Boy meets girl by chance and girl throws herself at him so he becomes smitten. Even here you have to suspend some belief as it becomes clear that he is an inward-looking loser who seems to have no male friends. Women, however fall at his feet and want to bed him - really? The tension builds as more events pile up involving his ex girlfriends and work colleagues suffering injuries, discreditation and even death. Lots of questions are raised for me about why he acts as he does, putting his best (girl) friend in danger by staying over at her place at the drop of a hat, when other girls he has contact with have been targeted. Was wondering how he would extricate himself from the toxic relationship when, out of the blue, a minor female character who has had only the scantest of mentions, turn out to be the main protagonist. If we are to believe it she has been besotted with him despite never going on a date or having sex with him. From there the credibility is completely gone as the author tries to justify and explain all the events to fit in with the new twist. It does not wash as does the way that the original girl forgives him and he her and they are set to live happily ever after. Hogwash!

A Must Read For All You Non Sleepers!
This book is simply just a phenomenon. A beautiful straight forward mysterious, physiological thriller which will leave you wondering and fantasising. I found myself in the middle of the night thinking about this, trying to put the pieces together and figure out what might happen next. What will trigger another hint??I won't leave any spoilers- i just hope you read the sample first and give yourself a minute or two to imagine what could possibly occur later in the book. Throughout reading this book, you'll find yourself to be thinking about it a lot. Yes- full on thinking. Not the thinking you have 5 minutes after you put your Kindle down. No, its the thinking you do the next 6 hours or so. So take me seriously when i say that its quite a mysterious book this, with so many different pathways it could take. So you're left with your imagination to what path it could take.Everything sums up in the end but, since i'm a person who wonders about every single detail in the book, i wanted to grab the author and scream more questions. But thats just me, i always want answers to everything. But for others, i'm sure what was left at the end was a perfect explanation of everything. So don't fret! You won't be left off wondering for the rest of your life about what happened.Everything in this book was great. Honestly, i'v read plenty of Mark Edwards books to know excatly what i want in a physiological, thriller book. If you're new to these books or just happen to stumble into such books; i gladly suggest this to be your first. Its like a nice taster and starter for many books to come. I read this in only 2 days, completely forgetting i have a life. So sucked into this book. But i have a few tips for you! Weird, huh? But listen up. Make sure to pay attention to most things. Not everything- read recklessly. You know, at your own pace and the way you like to read. But make sure you're reading with your attention mode switched on. Secondly, don't skip pages and try to find out what happens. Such a bad habit, and for you to seriously enjoy this book, you gotta control yourself. Thirdly, switch your imagination on and, my friends, always explore the lengths of it.

Plenty of thrill and suspense, but very cliched and lacking in depth or characterization
This is a tricky review to write, because I can't quite decide whether this novel was incredibly clever, or ridiculously daft. One thing I can say is that it did keep me gripped almost right to the end. I've read a lot of other reviews on here that lay heavy criticism on this book for its somewhat 'leftfield' ending, and I can understand why. I don't want to ruin it for anyone who's halfway through this book, and would urge other readers to persevere with it and make their own mind up about how they feel about its conclusion.Apart from that, my major gripes are the irritating writing style and the discontinuities. To start with the writing style - I found it excessively detailed and descriptive of mundane topics in many places, in a way that almost reminded me of Alan Partridge, and made it quite difficult to take the situation seriously. I don't know whether this is a narrative technique, but I felt that it detracted from the drama and gravity of the story. It's also relentlessly 'metrosexual' in its style, and I found it hard to warm to any of the characters - the first part of the book seems to consist largely of either sex or drinking wine, which becomes very tiresome. The real locations do help to ground it a little bit, but it becomes clear very quickly that this story is aimed at the young middle class professional, which alienated me somewhat.Secondly, the discontinuities - this is a huge black mark for me - a number of annoying inconsistencies that should have been picked up in the editing process - I won't point them out as I'm sure readers will see them for themselves, but it is very annoying and totally unacceptable for a published novel. Although it's possible to skim over the odd error, after a while they eat away at the credibility of the storyteller and that spoils the experience for the reader. Not good.Overall I'd have to admit that it kept me reading until the end, but sometimes this felt more like a self imposed obligation than compulsion - I had to suspend my disbelief on several occasions, and also make allowances for several glaring inconsistencies that seriously detracted from what otherwise would have been a great story. The ending was genuinely unexpected, but for me I admit it ultimately failed to strike a chord.Bottom line - it kept me gripped, but it was otherwise unrewarding and shallow, and I didn't relate to any of the characters or their situations.

Good if a little predictable
Good if a little predictable, not so much the twist, but more the content. I read to the end, so I have it a tgree
