Summer of the Dragons (The Secret Dragon)

More adventures as Mari has to get used to living in a new blended family while protecting the dragons and their eggs from people who want to exploit them.While I ultimately enjoyed this book it was a bit slow to get going and the story felt more like a loose collection of events than the previous book. In the previous book, Mari had the memory of her father as a strong internal motivator while in this book it feels like she is just reacting to events rather than reacting while striving to fulfill some internal goal. I felt that made the story a little weaker.But despite this 'Summer of the Dragons' is a fun read with fun characters.Recommended.

I loved being reunited with the characters I met in the first book The Secret Dragon . Again, set in the wild and beautiful Heritage Coast of Wales , there is a real sense of the natural world and its mysteries in this story. Time has moved on a little .... Gweeb is settled nicely into her new " family" but the appearence of another unique dragon and an upcoming addition to the family means there are many changes to come. Mari and Dylan have their work cut out protecting ( and training) some new arrivals and in coping with their own emotional upheavals along the way. Fun,warm hearted and adventure packed story with some delightful new characters- such as classmate Geraint with his Mari smitten offers of help- and some more encounters with the troublemakers of the last book , Dr Griff the self obessesed TV palaeontologist and schoolmate enemy Ffion.Prepare for drama, surprises and daring rescue missions!

Because I really enjoyed the story and the style of the writing helps you to imagine your there in the story. I would have preferred it if the adults weren't part of the gang and it was more like a secret kids gang. I will look forward to the next one.

My son asked me to get him this book after reading the first one in the series. He loved them both.
