Can this be used to control perameters on a DAW?

No, the Pod Go does not have hotkey features. For hotkeys, I suggest checking out the Helix, Helix LT, or Helix Rack(with Rack Control).

Can I add/chain together my standalone (distortion, chorus) to this Line6 go pod? How would you do it?

Yes, you can add external effects either in front or behind the Pod GO. You can also add them within the FX Loop, turned them on/off within your preset settings.
