Beth, you can't turn it off but you can turn the volume way down. I don't think it will work for you, although you can't hear there is a red flashing light that you can't turn off. hope this helps. I use it for baking. don

No, you cannot. Once you set a time and start the countdown, it will count that interval and alarm. You must manually stop it, and then reset another time interval. I'm sorry that it will not meet your specialized need, because it is the very best timer on the market.

how long does the alarm sound off? will it stopped automatically?

Also, once the alarm goes off, it begins a count down of how long it has been since it went off so you know how much over you have cooked the item.

What size batteries does it use, and how many does it require?

4 size C batteries. This is THE BEST timer I have ever had....I have used mine for almost two years and not changed the batteries. I use it daily! I cannot say enough good things about this timer.

If you have sight or hearing difficulties

Now this is a great product. Large display and very loud audible alarm. Bought for my mom but was so pleased with it I bought one for myself as well. Very easy to use. My mom loves hers.

LOVE IT must have for any kitchen or dangereous tasks you should not forget about.

So easy to use, love the memory feature for a quick reset, love volume control, love how it counts how long timer has been going off for. Only thing is it is VERY large and would think display be larger due to that. But is a must have for any dangerous task such as stove, oven, or things that can cause a fire or should not be forgotten. If the phone rings, just turn everything off or hit the minute button a few times and the start button to ensure you stay on track. Impressive volume when set on LOUD, and alarm will not stop sounding until you address it or I guess until batteries die.
