So Far So Good–Until it WASN'T
UPDATE-11/10/2019.I've reluctantly reduced my original 5 star rating down to one star. The second dispenser I ordered seemed to work properly for a couple of days, but then my relative complained that not all his pills were coming out. I suspected that he might be dropping some of his medication, but when I travelled to his house this afternoon I found that some pills were indeed retained in the medication cassette. . The firstCompumed machine I had returned was jammed by sticky gel caps which, dispute E-pill's assurances to the contrary, jammed in the machine's belt. We substituted other medication which is not sticky, so that the machine no longer jammed. Nevertheless several pills stayed in the cassette and failed to drop into the drawer. The manufacturer, Compumed, had been very responsive to my previous questions with the first machine and obviously means well. However, I have come to the conclusion that their basic design may be faulty. Some users have reported positive experiences, but the devise simply does not work with the configuration of medication that my relative needs. Therefore I'm returning the machine and will not try a third one.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------This dispenser was pretty easy to set up, although I needed a bit of help from the manufacturer’s customer service ((which was VERY responsive, friendly, and helpful). The device is much easier to program and load than the inexpensive circular dispenser I returned after it failed on its second day of useI THINK my relative will be able to use the CompuMed, providing he can cope with removing and replacing the pill drawer. I’ add to my review if there’s a problem.9/23/2019There has indeed been a problem! I'm leaving my original 5 star rating, because this seems to be a basically excellent product. Furthermore CompuMed's customer support, through their representative Steve Christiansen, has been first rate. However, I'm returning the machine because it failed due to incorrect and false information provided by a representative of the seller, e-pill Medication Reminders. I posted the question "Will this work with sticky gel caps?". A representative of epill replied:"Yes By e-pill Medication Reminders SELLER on August 29, 2019"This reply is NOT true. The sticky gel caps that are part of my relatives medication jammed and wrinkled the belt. I was able to clean the belt, following instructions provided by Steve Christiansen, of CompuMed, but the device no longer works properly. I tested it four times and although the alarm went off no medication was dispensed.Although I'm returning this machine I intend to order another. I may wait a few weeks until I return from a scheduled trip, so that I'll have time to test the replacement properly during Amazon's return time window.UPDATE–11/03/2019. We received the second CompuMed box a couple of days ago and installed it at my relative's house last night. It seems to be working OK now that we found a substitute for the sticky gel caps that ruined the first unit.

Simple and reliable
Our family has been using CompuMed for many years. I just bought another one for my dad and I’m going to use his old one. The old one has been around for about 15 years. We’ve never had problems with any of our pills in it, even with gel caps. It has been such a good thing for our family. There are a couple of things I really like about CompuMed and a couple that I wish were different.First it is simple. Loading the medication organizer is like loading my flip top pill box. I don’t need a template or guide like I did with the round dispenser (we still have one, but don’t use it). I just load the pills from Sunday to Saturday in each row. That’s pretty easy for me. I put in a picture of an empty pill cassette and one showing my dad's morning meds and vitamins. The second thing I like is how reliable it is. I’m using the old one now for my vitamins and supplements. It has been working for around 15 years now. The new one is for my dad and his medication. Dad has been using a CompuMed for all these years now and I don’t know what he’d do without it. It has made my life so much easier. One thing I don’t like is putting in the battery pack. It is a little tricky to get in. It is not a big deal because I keep it plugged in all the time except when I move it to clean or load medication in it. The factory says CompuMed will last on batteries alone for about 10 - 14 days. Fortunately, I’ve only had to change the batteries once in the last two years.Another thing I wish was different is needing to adjust the clock every six months. It has a built in clock, but it doesn’t change every six months when the time changes in the spring and fall. I’ve gotten used to it, though, and when I change my other clocks in the house, I just change the CompuMed clock. It is easy to change the time, but I would figure with modern electronic things, the clock should change automatically. All in all, it is a great little machine.

NOT TAMPER PROOF!
Purchased machine primarily for its "tamper-proof" feature. That claim is simply FALSE!In fact, it's barely "tamper resistant".Medication can be stolen in <5mins,Leaving NO evidence of tampering. On the plus side, it's easy to program. Because computer display & keypad are 1980's technology. It does dispense medication at programmed time.
