Context and minutiae of Keats’ life deftly told
This is a fantastic read on Keats and the time. I never knew Motion much as a poet or Laureate but his study on this poet is interesting and not too dense to read, despite the size of the tome.

For all lovers of Kets' poeetry.
Beautifully written as you might expect from this author and very informative. This is a sympathetic portrayal of the poet and the blending of the poetry with the life brings both into focus.

Keats by Andrew Motion
Excellent service. Although we were notified that the delivery would have been after Christmas the book arrived before, which was a bonus.

Rather turgid
I did enjoy Motion's biography of Philip Larkin and thought I would like this, but I found it a bit stodgily written. There are much better books on Keats, the studies of Robert Gittings and Nicholas Roe to name two. There isn't even much on the poetry, more the figures who surrounded Keats during his short lifespan. Motion could have pruned this by about a third.

Deep and moving
I didn't want to finish reading this book and when I did, I cried. The insights into the creative process of writing poetry added to the great beauty of this book.

A hard to put down biography of a great poet by great writer
The alchemy that Andrew Motion creates from the various elements of Keats' poems and letters, the author's knowledge of the work of biographers that precede him and cut to the chase understanding of the historical and political contexts of his subject's brief, stellar life is a passion instilling read. I have put the book down to attend a dinner with friends and found myself speeding back home in the car to eagerly pick it up again! It's almost appalling to think of the book ending so soon, not due to the number of pages that remain but Keat's impossibly early death.
