TechYidCo. Shabbos Safe Warming Tray

After having purchased my first TechYid Warming Tray from the original funding campaign many years ago, I'm finally replacing it with the same thing. Safety is paramount for me; I have known of too many homes destroyed by poorly wired hotplates that were not intended for 25 hours of use at a time. The TechYid product was developed by an engineer who also knew of too many such fires and sought to create a safe machine. Mine performed reliably over all these years. Although some reviews indicate that the heat is inadequate, I found that it slow-cooked reliably at a good temperature until the last couple of uses when it was finally dying. The surface cleans as well as any other stainless surface, once food is burnt onto it--a bit of oven cleaner and scrubbing does the job. The fact that I'm buying a second TechYid blech, after researching others on the market says it all.

Works great, but I didn't realize it was a bit smaller than my previous hot plate. That's entirely my fault, though, as I didn't measure. Everything about it works nicely, and I like how the light to show it's on is in front. It even works with my timer, too.

This is just what it promises: a good blech / plata / food warmer for Shabbat / the Jewish Sabbath. It does get pretty warm, but we use a second piece of metal on top and it's never been too warm. Just bought Techyid blech #2 because #1 failed after 3.5 years of more than weekly use. Ours is on a timer and works great. Recommended for a safe way to heat food without traditional heating appliances.

This gets a four because we have found it to be so hot that it boils water which may be too hot for certain orthodox practices. It could cook food. Aside from that, it is a good product and it has made Shabbat a lot easier since our stove top blech is unusable now. I would recommend it, but only to those with a less stringent Shakrut practice.

I purchased my first TechYid blech during it’s original crowdfunding.. It lasted all these years . It works great and I sleep better over Shabbos knowing how safe it is. Highly recommended.

I love this hotplate for being built with safety as the first priority. Yes it’s more money than others but after my last hotplate burned out on YT, that was the end of those crappy made hot plates. This hotplate takes time until the until itself gots hot enough to heat up good so take that into consideration if using a timer. It gets the food pretty hot. It also depends on the density of the food and whether the food is covered or not.

So many good things, but so many things that just aren’t great. 1. Stainless is wonderful. Unfortunately, it seems to not be the best for this application. It is thin, came scratched, holds stains. I don’t want to use an abrasive on it, but that’s what it will need after a spill onto the surface. 2. Timers aren’t recommended for use. They don’t fit anyway. If you don’t want to leave this on for a day, please consider a different warmer. Safety reset is a great feature though! 3. Our first use was awful. We had Pyrex on the surface to keep dinner warm. It was so hot that items burned. Soup boiled and rice burned all while in glass Pyrex dishes. 4. I added trivets to the top on our second use to add some space between the surface and the containers- still too hot. 5. 3rd try I added a silicone baking mat over the trivets that were on the surface as another layer of penetration. It helped, but we had a stainless pot of soup on rather than the Pyrex. We don’t use for keeping rice warm anymore. 6. Kept our freshly roasted chicken warm for an evening. Pyrex on surface for 3 hours without issue, but very hot! Chicken was lightly tented with foil. 7. Set up to keep take out warm for dinner. Trivets on surface, silicone mat on top of trivets. Set take out containers on silicone and turned on unit with dinner being in under an hour. Within 15 minutes, styrofoam container had melted through bottom. Leakage onto surface that has ingrained itself onto the unit (barkeepers friend, baking soda vinegar paste, pink stuff….nothing is lifting this stain). 8. Worked beautifully to reheat slices of pizza quickly and keeping crust crispy. Placed parchment paper on surface of unit then a slice. 7-10 minutes and it was like fresh out of the oven. Depending on what you need this for, it may or may not work due to the intense heat this unit puts off. I have given it a good trying out with various warming needs and I will have to be very cautious of when and what to use it for. I’d like not to have another “appliance” in my limited space, with limited use, so please use caution when considering this product for your needs. I hope the temperature issue is addressed by the company. I also hope they can use a better grade stainless for the surface of the unit. If they have any suggestions for better management of this unit, I’d love to hear them.

TechYid Co Shabbos Safe Hotplate Using it t for four months and I love it. Very sturdy. No more hassling with crockpots which are too hot or too cold to do the job of warming. I cover the food to keep it moist. If I'm reheating and concerned about anything drying out I can put down some aluminum foil first. This shabbas warmer is super versatile and easy to clean and the electric cord is obviuosly heavy duty and has an auto emergency shutoff in case something gets too hot..so no fears of starting fires. Thank you for this it's wonderful to have perfectly heated food on Shabbas! If I had a large family I would definitely buy two. One is perfect for four people.
