A' The Bairns O' Adam: Hamish Henderson Tribute Album.
An excellent anthology of material – songs and poems – by the great Hamish Henderson; I had an LP tribute album of Henderson`s work many years ago, sadly lost over time, so I was delighted to find this.Henderson is one of the finest writers on the Scottish experience - particularly his war poems; an important intellectual commentator and folklorist, he's still under-represented in print – to an extent that makes this album all the more valuable. The booklet notes are very good and the lyrics of the songs are included.A fine disc; if you don't know Henderson`s work buy this now; if you do, the same advice applies – though you probably won't need to think twice. The CD has a running time of just over 54 minutes – do listen to the sound samples above.

Fine selection of songs and poems
This is a great CD, I enjoyed it very much, and am sorry I never heard Hamish perform in person. I particularly enjoyed the version of D-Day Dodgers and Freedom Come All Ye. Buy it if you like Scottish music, you won't be disappointed. It's worth buying for the excellent sleeve notes alone, which tell a lot about Hamish. There are words to all the songs, but it would be better if a translation of some of the dialect words had been provided. As a Sassenach, I must admit that I have no idea what " gar oor rottans", "heelster-gowdie" , "my worm keeks in your barn and byre", "in duddies braw", etc. mean. Puzzling, but great songs nevertheless

Hamish Henderson
I knew Hamish well when a young student in Edinburgh in the middle of the last century. It is wonderful and a privilege to hear again the voice and poetry and music of one of the greatest Scots of the last century - or of all time, come to that!

Great album. You need to know the history behind the songs and the verse to fully appreciate it.
