Blue River/Stages: Lost Album

I've been listening to Eric Andersen's songs since his earliest Vanguard vinyl album releases. When "Blue River" came out while I was in college, I turned many friends on to it as well as to his earlier recordings. Blue River stayed near the top of my "go to" albums well into the 1980s when I sold my record collection. I totally missed the initial, belated release of the follow up "lost" album, so when I came upon this 2-CD release with both of these albums, I immediately hit the 1-click purchase option. Blue River remains as powerful as the day I first heard it and upon hearing "Stages" my heart broke when I imagined how Mr. Andersen must have felt when he learned that the master tapes of this remarkably powerful, mature work were missing. An under recognized artist's career derailed by fate at the moment in time that should have instead marked major success. Time can't undue this damage, but if you're at all interested in the singer/songwriter genre, you owe it to yourself, and to Eric Andersen, to bring these recordings into your life.

Eric Andersen is up there with some of my favorite artists and on these remasters the sound is great and these are definitely two of his best,fortunately on stages they finally found his lost tapes all those year's later,this was the follow up to Blue River but somehow the tapes were lost and it never got released until they called him and said we found what you've been looking for,I purchased the old cd when it was first released along with Ghosts Upon The Road probably his all time best!

Eric Andersen has a wonderful voice. Blue River is a lot of fun. The album also features some history of the sixties, a photo of Eric, the inspiring Tom Paxton and the wonderful Phil Ochs.This a great buy.

Worth it just for the Blue River album alone! Great songwriting and performance.

Not his best but, worth having.

This CD omits three songs from Blue River: "Is It Really Love at All," "Pearl's Goodtime Blues," "Round the Bend."Too bad. Blue River is perfect album...but not without all nine of its original songs.

As a musician from the 60's, I listened to Eric Andersen as a contemporary of other singer songwriters like Tom Paxton, Dylan, Joni Mitchel, Tom Rush and many more. Eric Anderson had a poetic quality that appealed to me. Blue River was an album that touched me deeply...songs like "Round the Bend" and "Wind and Sand" in particular. I listened to his music a lot and then moved on into other writers and styles. To find his music again, and re-hear Blue River and hear the Lost Album (for the first time) reminded me of everything that touched me in the past.This double album is well worth the price and rewards with each hearing. Thanks Eric Andersen for so many great songs.

Der 1943 geborene Singer/Songwriter Eric Andersen [vocals, acoustic guitar, piano, harmonica] hat einen Hang zum Poetischen, Philosophischen und Verträumt-Romantischen. Dieses spiegelt sich vor allem auf seinen frühen Werken. In der Gesamtheit der Songs hat "Stages" nach meiner Meinung nicht die Ausnahmestellung von "Blue River" ... aber trotzdem eine würdige Ergänzung desselben. Viele Gute Songs. Auch ein paar die man lieber skipt. Wen man es gut einprogrammiert ein Genuss.. Trots etwas niederige Produktions Kwalität.. Es sind 50 Jahre vergangen seitdem. da sind die Ohren etwas verwönt geworden.

Per quanto mi riguarda, Blue River é una delle canzoni più belle che abbia mai sentito, non mi stanca mai ... e inoltre ve ne sono parecchie altre in questa raccolta all'altezza della situazione. peccato non conosca bene l'inglese, e che per apprezzare anche il testo, debba sempre andare a pistolare in internet!! Impensabile fino a pochi anni fa, avere di questi capolavori a questo prezzo!
