Crochet So Fine: Exquisite Designs with Fine Yarns

Lots to Like
"Crochet So Fine" is much like a fashion magazine: the garments are interesting, creative, and beautifully photographed. And, as in any magazine or catalog, not every garment will appeal to everyone--and that's okay! Because Kristin Omdahl presents such a wide variety of styles in the 21 projects, there is much to like, no matter what your taste. Fitted cardigans, flowing shawls, some hats...whichever project(s) you choose, you will find Kristin's detailed, helpful instructions to guide you.The Petals Wrap Cardigan featured on the cover really got my attention. I love the way Kristin incorporates the motifs into this openwork sweater. Detailed row by row instructions are supplemented by charts. As a designer myself, I know that it's challenging just to figure out what software to use to create charts. Many people find the visuals helpful, and Kristin is an expert at preparing them. I can't wait to make this and wear it!I also like the way Kristin incorporates less-well-known techniques like broomstick lace and hairpin lace into her designs. She gives crocheters good reasons to learn something new.Large expanses of double crochet stitches strike me as "been there, done that." (I think that look is what knitters often react negatively to, and I can't say I blame them.) While I appreciate the creativity of the hem, cuffs, side gussets, and sleeve attachment technique in the Cascade Pullover Tunic, I'm not drawn to the body of the sweater or the bib additions. In contrast, Pearl's Cardigan uses double crochet stitches in a fresh way that looks fun to make and wear. Some of the more dramatic projects, like the Orchid Circular Shawl, are not for everyday wear--but what a great choice for a special occasion. I can picture a row of bridesmaids all wearing Orchid shawls. Wow!I recommend this book to intermediate and experienced crocheters who are looking for interesting, well-explained projects that they will get many compliments on!

Exquisite Designs Says it All!
Kristin Omdahl has completely outdone herself in this new book! When I first thumbed through the book, my jaw dropped and has stayed there through every perusal since--I can't stay away from it!I already own and like her book, Wrapped in Crochet. Although not every design was suited to my taste, there are still incredibly beautiful pieces that I am still planning on making. But before I've even finished with those, she comes out with this new and even better book!I am a crochet designer myself and work with lace a lot. Lace designs can range from easy to so intricate and complex that they are masterpieces of the craft--Kristin covers this full range in her different projects. Knowing what goes into designing, I can say that Kristin's pieces are crowning achievments in the art of crochet. They show what is possible with this craft--breathtaking works of art.The projects cover a wide range of tastes and some incorporate retro design into her uniquely modern pieces. This range of projects and styles ensures that everyone can find some favorites.Aside from that, the book itself is beautifully designed. Clear charts are provided, as well as plenty of great full-color photos with clearly delineated written instructions.Although there are about ten projects I want to make right now, all at once, this book is worth having in the library just for the sheer beauty of the book itself and what it contributes to the art of crochet. It's one to be picked up repeatedly, a pleasure to marvel at, a crochet classic.

The contents are great but arrived late and damaged
The book itself is thorough and easy to comprehend with a standard of crochet lace that makes it well worth the price. I highly recommend the book. It is a bit advanced, but if you are ready to move up with your crocheting, this is an excellent source with great patterns, a good glossar andclear stitch diagrams.I'm not so happy with the packaging but there was no option to review seller on this item, so you get it here. This book measures about 8-1/2" by 10-1/4", is is a soft cover. It was shipped in a standard bubble envelope with a 7" x 7-1/4" piece of cardboard to protect it. So the book got bent around the inadequate piece of cardboard, the right upper corner of the whole book is bent and the cover is foxed. This book is completely usable but I spent a little more to buy a new book and that's what I expected to get. It's too much trouble to send it back and wait (again) for a new one, so I am keeping it.As I said before, the knowledge and techniques taught in this book is well worth the price. If you want to crochet beautiful and delicate things, buy this book - just be careful who you buy it from.

Fantastic
I managed to score a used copy of this book and the designs are positively stunning. The lace patterns are simply phenomenal and I can easily see myself making each and every one. I highly recommend this book.

Beautiful designs that are not as difficult as they seem
Kristin Omdahl designs the most beautiful patterns! These are in the fine yarns that I love. The Petals wrap cardigan is my favorite; it seems more difficult than it is - her written instructions can be a bit confusing, but the diagrams help a lot. This book is better for advanced crocheters, but I'm sure even less experienced crocheters can complete some of the designs. If you love doing elegant fine needlework, this book is worth the effort!

An awesome book with beautiful designs!!!
I have been waiting for this as i pre-ordered it....got it yesterday! The book is truly amazing. The designs look absolutely gorgeous and the photographs make them alive. I love the accessories section!Right now i have in hand a test-knit and two other crochet projects, but i think i will start the `Amour Sequin Scarf' as my hands are itching to start at least one project. The `Diamonds Shawl' is surely following :-)I read the book like a novel late in the night. I love the flow of designs in the book and truly found some surprises in the cardigans section. Thanks for designing a fabulous collection for commoners like me to make and last but not the least....Congratulations!

Highly recommended
Absolutely beautiful patterns with excellent written instructions as well as charts so you can easily tell what to do. My favourite is the starry shawl - making this with a fine grey-blue metallic wool feels like being draped in magic

Not for the feint hearted!
I bought this book purely to make the cardi on the cover. I had read all the previous reviews and they are very true - the written instructions are very difficult to follow and at times incorrect so follow the diagrammes. The one real problem I had was how to join the fronts to the back and I did have to resort to searching crochet forums on the internet until I found someone who had written it all out in plain English. I have now got as far as the edging and I have to say am really pleased with how the garment is turning out but beware this is not a pattern for the feint hearted or for a beginner and sometimes you have to be prepared just to follow the instructions but be prepared to unpick if necessary. Shall be trying some others in the book at some stage and hoping they are slightly easier!

hooked
Love the petals wrap cardigan on the cover. This is definitely not a beginners crochet project but if your a patient person you will love this one or any other project in the book.

Bellissimo libro, un vero must-have
