Halloween fun
This story makes great Halloween reading for young children. It is written for an American audience and so some terms need explaining like 'Little League'. But this doesn't affect the meaning of the tale and the psychological thrill of those creepy carrots.

I think you will be surprised at the ending. Our kids loved this book. Well-written and illustrated.

The perfect picture book for gently introducing the little crowd to spooky reads
I bought this book for a 4 year old boy with some reservations that it might be too scary for him and his young siblings. No need to worry as it turns out, though. This delightful picture book is a great way to gently ease little ones to subtle spookiness and mystery. Every page contains only a couple sentences of text and is nicely illustrated in somewhat ominous black, grey, and white...with just a touch of orange (those darn carrots and their sneaky impersonators!) Poor little bunny, Jasper, is endearing and mischievous; and he's positive that the carrots that he loves to sneak from the garden to eat are beginning to stalk him. While brushing his teeth, he glimpses the avenging carrots behind him...but we (and his parents) only see other bathtub objects (in carrot-orange color, of course). That continues throughout most of the book with other everyday objects being confused as threatening carrots by Jasper. This offers fun for little ones since they can feel wise (and a bit smug) because they know what he's REALLY seeing. Or do they? Jasper cleverly resolves his dilemma and the story winds up with a fun, surprise ending. All in all, an enjoyable read for little ones and the grownups who love them.
