funny/not funny
As humor goes, it IS funny, although I’ve never been a fan of swearing, especially when the humor is as good as Mr. Hughley’s is. He is a master of getting his serious point across even while you’re snorting with laughter. The not funny parts are the reality of the racism the treaty is needed to end. Sadly surrender will not happen, but maybe a memorandum of understanding come help.

Superb!
I just wish I was still teaching as I would have my students read this book. Not only would they learn a lot; they’d LOVE it!Thank you for an enriching and engaging look at the world through the lens of the African American experience.I surrender!

It's all True
I am white. I have read a lot about the failed you people, but we stayed up until the early hours of the morning talking and drinking. Amazing experience for me. My experience does little towards racial justice, but I have tried a bit.

Funny, in-your-face truth
Great read! Concise history of American racism & how it has affected black folks & the need for white folks to wake up & recognize that there is a problem.

Don't Let Foul Language Stop You
This book was such a breath of fresh air. I say that for two reasons:1.) The book was an easy read2.) I hadn’t read a book I thoroughly enjoyed in over a yearD.L. Hughley stepped up his game since “How Not To Get Shot” which was published in 2018 (I believe). I liked that book, but this book is better. “Surrender, White People!” is similar to Hughley’s previous book in its size, page count, thickness, and even writing style. D.L. writes in a no-frills manner that is easily understood--even if there is some foul language. Both books are relevant to the times, yet “Surrender” seems to be even more pertinent, insightful, and what’s more, it is funnier. But the real key to get the full satisfaction and enjoyment from the book is to read it in Hughley’s voice. I don’t mean read out loud impersonating D.L. Hughley, that may be too hard to do. I mean replace the voice in your head with his voice; it makes the book so much more enjoyable. Be warned, for those of you not familiar with D.L. Hughley, it does have foul language as I mentioned before. For anyone who has ever heard him do stand-up then you already know what you’re getting. For those of you who have virgin ears (or eyes in this case), or are not familiar with D.L. Hughley, then there are bad words used. I, for one, am not going to let some cuss words prevent me from having a good time.

MEH! Fell short of expectations!!
So, I do believe comedians make great points often time in ways no one else can and that they can use humor to effect the nation's conscience for the good! So when I saw that a comedian I've loved came out with a book that uses humor and sarcasm to help heal the racial rift in our nation I was excited to read it!!But this book fell short of all my expectations! Sadly!!The humor and sarcasm was thin and seemed more of one-sided jabs delivered out of anger rather than aimed at healing rifts. Many things he threw out as facts were blatantly untrue. I lost considerable respect for D. l. Highly through these pages and certainly won't be recommending this book to anyone as helpful. I fail to understand how someone can write a book of this scope and use the opportunity to escalate the anger rather than strive to honestly bring healing. Don't vet me wrong: there are some good if not great suggestions at times,, they just seem to get glossed over as insignificant compared to the primary point: ranting and raving in anger!!
