Resilient. Effective.
Why did you pick this product vs others?:Excellent. It was used to split maple logs (3 feet long x 8-12+ inches in diameter). Total of a cord of wood. Worth every dollar for this wedge.

Good steel wedge for seasoned wood.
This is a simple steel wedge for splitting wood. The splitting edge is conventional, but up the wedge widens by the addition of two flat ridges. These work for seasoned wood to increase the splitting width.I do not know what how the wedges would work with green wood which is softer than what I split.

Great Little Splitter!
This wedge does as good a job, better and safer than my axe. I did have to sharpen it, which you want to do before using it. You'll need a heavy one handed mallet or small sledge hammer to use it. I haven't used a maul, but I think for small jobs or occasionally splitting logs this works fine, is safer and spares my shoulders from using an axe or maul. It is a workout to split logs this way.

Effective splitting wedge
This wedge works as expected for splitting logs. The shape is well suited for splitting, but it may be necessary to have two if you are splitting very large logs. My only complaint bumping it down from 5 stars is that the steel is softer than I would prefer and I have already badly mangled the strike face with my sledge. It still works, but I would expect this amount of wear after several months of use rather than several days.

Splits Like a Champ—ESTWING, You’ve Got My Respect
I don’t usually get emotional about tools, but the ESTWING Sure Split Wedge deserves a standing ovation. This beast doesn’t just split wood—it obliterates it. I used it after a storm to break down some stubborn pine rounds that laughed in the face of my axe. One swing with this wedge and they weren’t laughing anymore. The design is genius: those side wings aren’t just for show—they push the wood apart like it owes them money. It bites deep, holds firm, and doesn’t twist or bounce out like cheaper wedges I’ve cursed at in the past. The weight feels just right in hand—solid enough to drive through knots, but not so heavy it wears you out.I paired it with a sledge and got into a rhythm that felt downright therapeutic. If you’ve got logs to split and a grudge against nature, this wedge is your new best friend. It’s earned a permanent spot in my gear, right next to the duct tape and the coffee thermos.Highly recommend for anyone who wants results, not excuses. ESTWING, you nailed it.

Impossible to start. Bounces out of Maple hardwood on every hit
I bought a Milwaukee 18V Hack Chainsaw which has just an 8" bar. I use the tool to create a slot to place the wedge which works perfectly with my old wedge. Even with the slot, I could not get the Estwing wedge to engage. It kept bounding out after every hit. The bottom width of the wedge is too wide. What the wedge is good for is as a second wedge on a larger 3' dia round, or after a wide split has started. So I give it 3 stars as a SECOND wedge to help open the split created by a different first wedge on larger rounds. Knowing Estwing, I'm sure the wedge is forged well.
