Has the quality of a much more expensive blade.
Very good fit and finish on both the knife and the sheath. Looks and feels like a high end knife. Really feels good in the hand with a good grip and good balance. Bought it as a gift and was so impressed that I almost kept it for myself. As I have been making and collecting knives for over half a century now I feel like I can definitely say that this one is worth every penny spent. Really refreshing to find something that is this nice for the cost. Thanks

Review for the Spring assisted folding knife 6688 & Tanto Camping Knife with Sheath 2307 (Kobun)
This is an combined review for the Spring assisted folding knife 6688 & Tanto Camping Knife with Sheath 2307 (Kobun Samurai). The 2307 fixed tanto katana I call here "Tanto". I bought from both 2 items. On all boxes it says Made in China for G+W. G+W is however an ukrainian company so I bought this to support Ukraine. They are based in Charkow. Did the chinese commies really use 440C or propperly heat treat these? Edge retention is just barely Ok.440C stainless steel:Both lost 1 star since the 440C steel is less impressing regards edge hold than I expected.I tested 1 of each knives and they cut paper when they arrived. After peeling off one orange with each they stopped cutting paper. Then I chopped some branches with each, ate some hot dogs and one day later used them on an barbecue with ribs and they stopped cutting paper as well. The pocket folder I sharpened free hand with an stone and then it started to cut paper again before the BBQ today. It cut somewhat paper well after the BBQ. For both, the hot dogs yesterday and the BBQ today I used ceramic plates. When I used the resharpened folder today for BBQ I could feel how the knife cut into the ceramic plate - the Tanto blade did not (I did not resharpen the Tanto at all but left it as came from factory). The Tanto does not cut at all paper anymore. So, is this really 440C steel or does the 440C underperform? I certainly expected more from the 1980's "Supersteel" 440C. However this 440C does perform better than the local brazilian Tramontina "high carbon stainless" which has an HRC from 56.But do not expect to much wonders from 440C since it's edge retention is just good enough. It sharpens really well with 6 strokes on an stone free hand each side to paper cut edge again. Did the chinese heat treat this right? I would guess the HRC is only 58 barely and never close to 60 HRC.I see on Ganzo knives claiming 440C steel and only 58 HRC. This is definately harder steel than the brazilian Tramontina which claim 56 HRC so it must be somewhat of 58 HRC but not more. It is IMO better steel than the brazilian crap one knows from Latinamerica.Sharpen the Tanto blades in sections with the higher (honing) grit stones. These need to be touched up only ever so slightly to get paper cutting ability. Both sport an Tanto style blade. That is ideal for BBQ. You use mayorly only the straight point and not the long blade itself. That means the point gets dull but the blade stays sharp. Mostly you will see you use the point where both edges meet and not so much the long straight edge. Awesome blade style for BBQ since you have basically 2 edges.Spring assisted folding knife 6688:I cut some brush branches with this. It did not break. All forces are getting into the stopper pin on this model. That stopper pin is a bit to thin for this otherwise sturdy construction of the folder. It is all stainless steel except the G10 scales. A magnet clings to the knife. The frame lock (it has actually a frame lock since the frame is tucked underneath the G10 scales) locks at 45%. That is a bit too much for me. We will see in the future how it chews through. Latest then we have a clue about heat treatment. On one side it has an brass washer and an nylon washer and on the other side an nylon washer. So they cheaped out on that.I tooke one side of the scale off which was the part where the spring for the assist houses. Threads are fine of the screws. They thread into the stainless frame. The spring mechanism is not like it is shown on an disassembly YT video. They changed it now to on proper spring which is housed in an metal rectangular box in an cut out in the frame. Spring is of a type I have never seen in an snake form which hooks probably into an hole onto the blade back. The spring is steel and has to be kept lubricated. The spring is under tension when closed and slides up freely when the blade is open. This housing box for the spring is an unnecesary complicated failure prone part which is held into place just with some pot metal ears. If they break the housing could fall out and the spring will have no support anymore and fly out. With that the knife is not anymore spring assisted and I have no clue how the knife would stay closed since that does the spring. Maybe one would maintain the knife open. If the stopper pin breaks then the knife becomes useless, if the spring fails the knife could be used as an fixed blade maintaining it open all the time. Tha scales seem to be G10 since they are grippy in wet conditions as well. I lubricated the knife from outside with Vaseline. No gritty anymore but rather smooth but the spring is strong so you can not just flick it for fun like an american made overpriced knife. This is an jungle, war or field knife. If it breaks just throw it toward some russians onto their heads. It is an honk of steel. I believe it is 100% 440C stainless steel as per claims of the seller. Believe in God and trust on Radar as Churchill said. This is lets say an field knife for an ukrainian soldier for field kitchen. It is an formidable BBQ cutter. After 5 strokes each side on an high grit stone it is utility sharp again. It does not shave hair but cuts paper. Some 0.5mm gaps I see where the Stainless ends meet the frame on both ends screwed on. That is Ok since they give you really metal for your money. No plastic on these. What worries me is the stopper pin which is held only by fit into place which holds this knife functional. I never used this as an throwing knife. This folder has an detent knob on the liner/frame lock but no detent hole on the blade section. Definately a design flaw by some chinese or ukranian designers. So if it would have had an detent on the blade, the spring could fail and it would remain closed anyways due to the detent. This redundant feature has been overseen by their "design engineers".For 10$ go for it. Would I buy it again? Not really. I rather would go for the double as expensive Ganzo 729 knives which are a PM2 cloneTanto Camping Knife with Sheath 2307 (Kobun Samurai):This is an more robust knife as the folder. 440C is edged into the blade while only printed on on the folders blade. The front hand guard wobbled but sliding down a bit the paracord fixes that.I took apart the paracord on the handle and rewrapped it to see if I can do it. Worked fine.Underneath the paracord on the handle there are 2 rough wood scales pinned into place on 2 spots. If the wood is not splinting they will never come off. The Kobun is an full tang as underneath the paracord runs an full tang to the brass end. The hand guard is brass as the end piece. Solid brass. How the brass end piece is attached to the tang I could not figure out. Maybe pressure fit on an protruding piece of metal from the tang. Not much else to say what was not said before. This Tanto is an very nice chopper for brushes. It is heavy enough for chopping and has an very thick spine (blade). Both of these, the folder and Tanto sport an Scandi cut. So they are rather choppers and stabbers than slicers. You can cut small branches in the forest with this Tanto. It balances about 1.8 cm behind the hand guard on the grip. So right where you hold it is the perfect balance. I used the blade on the front flat edge (ceramic plates for Hot Dogs and BBQ) where it does not bite anymore into an finger nail but the flat edge bites still into the finger nail.Maybe I am to overcritic with the 440C stainless steel but I had more expectations (maybe closer to an Magnacut or 30V steel which is clearly unreasonable). These Tantos I would never sell but these I feel are good self defense knives.Order yourself an angled sharpener with some ceramic or diamond fine stones and these you have to give only 5 strokes each side to come to an utility sharpness once you dulled them up.These Tantos I recommend and would buy again. These will have not design flaws so these will not break. If it falls apart you still stuck with the 440C full tang blade and can redo a grip on it somehow. One could get rid of the wood scales and wind double and tripple paracord onto it and I bet it would work well. However I go rather for Ganzo 729 style pocket knives since these small Samurai Swords one will not carry as EDC daily. They are just to big. In an end of the world scenario however you wanna have these.

Extremely Pleased with this Tanto
Good tanto at any price but an excellent tanto at this price (I paid $22 for it).The sheath is actually better than previous reviews will lead you to believe. Those reviewers don't understand that it is designed to be worn IWB (Inside the Waist Band) or tucked into a belt much like a samurai would tuck their tanto into their obi. The little loop on the sheath is not designed to hang on the belt but to flip OVER the pants and anchor to the belt when the sheath is tucked inside the pants to keep the sheath from flying outward when the tanto is drawn. WARNING: I do not recommend carrying it this way if, like me, you are a bit girthy - you might give yourself a nasty slice. Also check your local laws about carry a concealed weapon before you do.The paracord that wraps the handle may be a little loose when it arrives and may loosen up over time. Fix or remedy this by simply applying a little fire. The cord is made of nylon and will tighten up and bond with itself by passing the flame of a lighter gently under it. Do so ever so gently. Too much will overly melt it. A little at a time and check repeatedly until you are satisfied with the results. I recommend this instead applying a glue which (depending on the glue you use) could have an unfortunate chemical reaction to the paracord or spillage could mar the finish of the knife. The blade is quite good. The truth is it is similar to what you would find on a budget samurai sword wall hanger. For a sword, this steel and finish combo is too hard/brittle - a sword needs a certain amount of flex or it will snap under it's own weight when in use. The length of a sword puts too much stress on this particular metallurgical makeup. For a tanto, however, the application is different and this steel and finish combo works very well. The short length of the blade dissipates the stress element and the hardness of the blade holds an edge very well.I love this tanto.

A “Good” Gift
The weight and grip is suffice. But, when given the choice to sharpen it better for easier cut, it sadly wasn’t sharp enough. I cut the box, and it was somewhat blunt. Sure, it cuts through, but not enough to the point that it’s able to easily cut all the way through. The quality is great! Some tape stains here and there, but easy to remove. The size isn’t that big, but just enough length to cut things away from the grip handle (since there’s no guard). But the best out of all is the font I chose! Could’ve done the fonts on both sides of the blade. But doing so might have problems later, so who knows?

Great sheath knife
Used it twice. Camping works great for making fire kindling heavy duty food. Tang sheath is very nice too. If I wear it out I'll buy another one.
