How accurate does it need to be to be usable? Well, how about spot on!
[UPDATE] I promised I'd come back & update when I calibrated or figured out how to get an accurate reading from the Wihoo. Well, it has been figured out.I had mentioned to my bride (bless her heart) about the discrepancy in the measuring units (listed in the original review) so she took the Wihoo off the wall ... and shook it. To her pleasant surprise the needle of the hygrometer dropped 10%. Go figure. Who'da guessed that by shaking the unit it would adjust. I don't know how a hygrometer's internal organs are designed but I guess they can get stuck. So now the hygrometer is spot on with the digital unit & the thermometer is off by just a degree or two, very usable. As of this writing, inside my humble abode the humidity is at 55%, outside the humidity is at 88% taken from a weather station some six miles from here.A few final pics were uploaded showing the accuracy of the unit now, a side profile showing the feet, & the back of the unit I had forgotten to post earlier.[Original review] A little history: I moved from a mountainous desert area to a low level semi-humid area and have never had any real experience with humid situations. Yeah, I've had condensation develop on the windows when we were cooking a hearty meal but it quickly dissipated & no worries. Mold is something you don't get much of in a high mountainous desert area ... or at least from my experiences. Now however I have condensation on my windows constantly. I have sitting water in my window tracks. From what I've read, living in a semi-humid area, one needs to keep an eye on it. So in comes the WiHoo 8" Thermometer/ Hygrometer. The unit is a nice looking piece, bronzed tin bezel which matches nicely with my decor. Large, easily read Fahrenheit numbers (at least for the Thermometer) with Celsius being the smaller numbers inset on the arc of the thermometer and it's easy enough to know where the Hygrometer is pointing with 50% being right at the top of the gauge, the comfort zone being between 40% & 50%. The back of the unit is much like a simple wall clock (roughly 2" x 2" in size) with a triangular notch for a nail or screw head to hang from. The unit is very light weight so there's no need to find a stud to anchor this, sheetrock will more than suffice. There are feet which protrude slightly from the unit to keep the unit itself off of the wall so air can flow around & behind it to give an accurate reading. The instructions suggest the unit is calibratable but I have not yet ventured to that extreme yet so I am not sure if the instructions are referring to the thermostat or the hygrometer ... I'm hoping for the latter if not both. Being a calibratable unit where most digital units are not, this option allows for long term usage instead of purchasing a new one every few years. From what I've read, hygrometers do need calibration every couple of years to stay accurate, otherwise they drift. As you can tell, I'm more interested in the hygrometer than in the thermometer but a thermometer is a thermometer & this one is accurate to within two degrees.Three Stars because I simply don't know yet.I need to come back & finish this review but want to get my thoughts down before I get too far along & forget my initial impressions. I have had this unit for a week now so it's had plenty of time to acclimate to the room temperature & humidity. As I mentioned, I have a constant supply of condensation on my windows which would definitely go along with a 62% humidity reading (+/-3%) & I was content with that reading. We've had a night where we were steaming broccoli & the hygrometer went up to above 85% so I know it is rotating & therefore functioning. Then I read an article regarding the thermal dynamics of condensation & realized the hygrometer must be off.So I bought a ThermaPro TP49 digital just to verify the WiHoo is accurate. To my disappointment I discovered a 10% difference in the two hygrometers. So which one is accurate? Talking with my neighbor, he lent me his ThermaPro TP50 that he's had for roughly a year or more. Again, to further my disappointment I find a 7% difference between the two ThermaPro's with a total range of 18% difference between the three units. So ... how accurate does it need to be to useful? At least I have a rough idea of what the humidity in my humble abode is.Perhaps I am reading too much into this but if I can determine which unit is more accurate I can then test the calibration on the WiHoo. Once I can calibrate it I can tell you if this is worth the time & effort for this unit.I'm not going to return this unit if that helps you make a decision before I finish this review. I might end up returning the ThermaPro though. ;-)

Attractive and functional.
Out of the box the thermometer seemed to be a bit off, but luckily I have several digital thermometers around the home so I uses them to fine tune the thermometer. Having this ability to adjust the thermometer for accuracy is a big plus and maybe it might not be needed in most cases but I suspect mine was thrown off by the lengthy travel to its destination. Dehumidity reading consistently matched the weather station that's in my area.It is attractive. I have mine on my verando and it's just an attractive and helpful addition.I would definitely recommend. So much so that I am about to purchase another but this time with the barometer.

Very pleased product and rapid delivery strongly approves
Back porch read from kitchen window accurate with smaller outdoor thermometer

Metal case and glass but rain leaked inside one inch. . Had to seal glass.
Supposed to be for outdoor use. Disappointed in water collecting inside in one rain shower . Nice looking case.

Very Disappointed.
The good: The outside build quality is very solid. Metal frame and glass are very good quality and it is easy to read. The Bad: I followed the instructions. I let the thermometer and hygrometer sit for 2 hours inside house where I could control the temp (80deg) and match the humidity reading (46%) on my Amazon smart thermostat app. After 2 hours the thermometer read 82deg and hygrometer read 68%. I followed the instruction and calibrated the thermometer which was very easy to do. However, the hygrometer needle did not move from it's original reading of 68%. The calibration screw is EXTREEMLY hard to get to and took me more 20min to finally set it to 46%. I let it sit two more hours inside to ensure the reading matched the indoor temp and humidity before taking it out side. I let it sit overnight outside under covered patio. It rain that night and the online weather report for my house was 81deg and 73% humidity. The temperature was right on but the hygrometer still read 46%. Conclusion: Temperature gauge appears to be working. Hygrometer does not work at all. I should have read the reviews closer. They mix the reviews with the 8in version which appears to be a much better product. The resent 15in version reviews were spot on. This explains why the Thermometer "only" version is only 2$ cheaper and a BIG discount in price. They are try to get rid of this "flaw" product with a big discount in price. Very disappointed. I really wanted to like this product. I will most like return unless I can accept the hygrometer not working and if the thermometer continues to show accurate reading.

Attractive, but, most importantly, ACCURATE thermometer.
We wanted a thermometer on our patio and previously ordered a similar, but smaller (12") one. That one was horribly inaccurate, usually off by 10 degreees or so. After reading many reviews of other thermometers, we chose this one, and I'm gald we did. Out of the box it was accurate when compared to my insta-read digital cooking thermometer. I'm sure it's not weather-station accurate, but good enough for our purposes. While I like the look of the thermometer, I had to take one star away because of the word "THERMOMETER" in big letters on the face. It's like putting the word "CAR" on a car. WE CAN SEE WHAT IT IS BY LOOKING AT IT!Outside of that, it's great. :)

Great outdoor thermometer.
This thermometer was as advertised, accurate, and easy to install. I like it very much, and would recommend it to anyone.

Works good - in the shade
It has a black housing. If you put it in the sunlight it reads high.Unfortunately, at our house in order to be readable from a window it had to be in the sun.I offered to paint it white, but the wife said no.Other than reading high it's an excellent product.
