Just as described, but of better quality than I had expected.

I'm no metallurgist, but this is a very nice knife for the price. It is rather large, too large to comfortably carry in Summer shorts. I keep it in my tackle box. No rust so far and I'm in the salt water every weekend. It opens beers, cuts lines and bait, and the marlin spike is great for removing knots.

This knife is bigger than you might expect from the pictures (about 5 inches) and is a solid, hefty knife with multiple functions.

There is a lot to like about this tool, but unfortunately I will not be using it for sailing, as the blade is on the 'wrong' side, for a right-handed user.CONSIf you hold it one way up then you cannot open it because your palm is in the way, but if you hold it the other way up then the blade is on the bottom side, so you cannot reach it with your thumb.You CAN open it one-handed with your left hand, so for lefties it could be fine, but for right-handed users it needs 2 hands to open.For a general pocket knife the awkward opening may not be an issue, but a sailing knife is for safety, so you can untie knots fast with the spike, and if you don't have time then you can flip open the blade and cut. So you want a knife that even when in a rushed panic, in the dark with wet hands, you can grab it, open it and cut yourself or equipment free - this cannot. It's a fumbling, 2-handed affair, and the sides are super smooth and slippery, which I forgot to consider when buying.None of the blades lock into place, which is also a potential safety issue.It's also pretty big and heavy, reducing the chances of you wanting to wear it all day (yet the lanyard ring is tiny and flimsy).PROSIt is plenty big enough and meaty for most tasks, seems generally well-made, and everything is easy and smooth to open, albeit with 2 hands.CONCLUSIONIt's too big, heavy, slippery and awkward to open for me to use it for sailing. It's a great knife for the workshop, truck etc.

Awesome Knives

I don't hate the knife, but even at the 11.99 I paid for it, I think there are better choices. I would call this a tackle box knife at best. I think if one were to plan on using this for even moderate maritime work they might be disappointed. It just has that very cheap feel to it. Think of the really cheap knock off swiss army knives. It's like that, but just larger. Most of the implements are loose fitting in the handle, the steel seems of cheap quality, and the glued on plastic handles feel like they would fall off at any moment. I understand it's a 12 dollar knife, but by comparison the maxam all stainless rigging knife or sailors tool as it's sometimes called, was miles ahead of this and was several dollars cheaper back when I purchased them. They by far would be a better choice and are in my opinion a way better purchase. I think this knife would be useful on a boat to cut small line, a rope in rare instances, maybe use the loosly fitting marlin-spike which would probably close on your hand, puch a hole in something not too heavy with the awl, and open a bottle cap. Who even opens bottle caps anymore anyways??? If this were around 6.99, I'd say maybe. For 12.00 bucks?? Even then too high. If you're keeping this in the drybox to cut ropes and stuff from the propeller shaft etc...please get something far better. Tackle box knife...sure. Go to knife for trouble on the waterway...better get something far better than this novelty.

This was a small gift for a man. He wanted a Marlin Hook and this knife provided it along with other features. He was very pleased with the heft of it, the ease of opening, and the other instruments included with it. I was pleased with the quality and value for the dollar.

Bought for my husband for Father's Day. We are new to boating, so thought it would be handy for him to have. I was happy with the size and weight of the knife. We haven't used it much yet to determine strength or durability, but so far he is very pleased.
