For native Russian speakers trying to learn English, not vice versa
To be fair, the book is very well-written and presented. (It could be improved by accent marks for the Russian words, however.) My principal problem is that the book did not meet my needs: I am an English speaker who is trying to learn Russian. This book is intended for Russian speakers who are trying to learn English. For that purpose, it probably would serve very well. But, all the learning exercises are written for practicing English, with Russian guide words. The book will help me a little, but it is not exactly what I need. The product description and some of the reviews indicated that, but I must have overlooked them. I agree with those reviewers who said that this book is written for native Russian speakers trying to learn English, and not vice versa.

Poor Russian Translations: Learners of Russian can’t trust this dictionary
In many instances, Russian words are not words used by native Russian speakers (for “lunch” they use ленч instead of обед). No accent marks are provided, so learners have to look elsewhere for pronunciation; I tried to add accent marks myself, but kept finding Russian translations were poor anyway. Phrases are presented in the imperative form form in English (“Peel the carrots.”) but translated into the infinitive form in Russian (“to peel carrots”). Please know this dictionary is useless for learners of Russian. I hope it is helpful for learners of English. The description on the cover should make this more clear. Page X reveals this book is for English language learners.

I would love to see a copy of this dictionary that is ...
I would love to see a copy of this dictionary that is actually as it is advertised. I would almost certainly give it 5 stars. But my copy had a cover that indicated it was an English-Russian picture dictionary, which is what I wanted. But inside it was entirely an English-Vietnamese copy. ?!?!? Why was this even sent out to me? Did no one notice or even look, or was it an attempt to pull off a scam?

Excellent bilingual ESL dictionary
Excellent dictionaries for our ESL students. Unfortunately, some bilingual version, including this Russian one, are only available in the 2nd edition. But this has been a minor problem. Just need to be sure of the correct page numbers for each edition when using them in class

Everyday Life
This book is useful for everyday language. It is an excellent tool for word association and vocabulary building. The only criticism is the lack of accent marks for the Russian words. This is important enough to keep it from 5 stars. For a student to use this to learn Russian with a reasonable accent is problematic. The strong point is the word/picture association by themes.I recommend this book for teachers and students.

Written for Russians to learn English. No sound tracks.
Written for the Russian who wants to learn English, not the reverse. Usable, but just expect this situation. These books should be written with pronunciation sound tracks in BOTH languages.

Wide array of scenarios
There are 168 pages of different scenarios pictured. Each item in the picture is tagged with a number. The numbers are listed on the bottom of the page with the English and Russian spelling. So, it helps if you already understand how to read Cyrillic letters. The only thing I'm not 100% sure about is the Geography listing on page 124 has an incorrect Russian Translation for South America. They listed it as Þæíàÿ Àôðèêà - South Africa. So I don't know if there are any other small mistakes like this since I haven't gone through the whole thing yet.Other than that, this is a good choice.

Not a dictionary!
To call it a dictionary is a misnomer. It doesn't cover much of the Russian nomenclature. It is rather a bilingual illustrated textbook for beginners in Russian. It is a pity that there is no "Dictionnaire visuel", bilingual or multilingual, for Russian. (There is an excellent one for French-English-German-Spanish-Italian, published by Québec-Amérique, in Montreal, Canada.)

OXFORD Picture Dictionary
