Prince

I've read a lot of books about Prince over the years and this one is a tiny delight. The first thing is that it is a lovely little thing - a small, purple hardback, with a paper wraparound cover featuring a painting of Prince in different eras, and in the middle there is a decent selection of photographs.Jason Draper wrote one of my favourite books about Prince several years ago ("Chaos, Disorder and Revolution") and he's the author of this volume too. It's essentially an overview of Prince's life - nothing deep, no detailed coverage - but it covers everything from his birth to his untimely demise, and almost all of the albums he released between. If you've read any books about Prince before you'll find the usual interviewees show up here - Susan Rogers etc. - but the vast majority of the interviews are new (the afterword claims they happened in 2020) so there are some anecdotes and details here that were new to me, and some interviewees who don't turn up that often such as Mayte, Prince's first wife. I thoroughly enjoyed the book, and if you're looking for a good overview of his life and career, this is a perfect place to start.

With Princely dash and elan, Mr Draper hits the ground running and doesn’t stop until the final page – Prince’s life is a great story, and he tells it very well. He’s obviously done loads of interviews with Prince’s ever-evolving inner circle – there’s material here I’ve never read about anywhere else. I’d say it’s a must read for Prince fans, and a great read for those new to his Royal Badness…

An excellent read for a prince fan

Very good read, incredibly detailed & digestible. Couldn’t put it down. Will explore more of the author’s work based on this. A must have for any prince > music fan.

This is such a lively and brilliantly written account of Prince's life - with some fascinating exclusive interviews and unforgettable anecdotes. I absolutely inhaled it. Highly recommended!
