Are the foundations plastic?

The outside frame is wood. The inside foundation is wax coated plastic. It is a good idea to add more wax to the foundations.

Were these made in the US?

NO THEY WERE MADE IN CHINA ITS A GOOD VALUE

Can you use these for a brooder box ?

Yes, you can. But I prefer a bigger Brood Box - more baby bees = more honey and a healthier hive eh? or - could get two and stack them and allow the bottom two to be brood boxes. either way - a great product

Will the bees still make some honeycomb?

Bees will not make honeycomb in the winter. They make it in the spring, when they need room for their babies and for honey.
